In my Bag: Travel Edition

Feeling pretty ambitious right now, having just landed in Vancouver from over 20 hours in transit and pretty much zero sleep - I'm on the blogging front. Probably because I'm high on adrenaline - after coming into my gorgeous room at The Loden and seeing the itinerary that Secret Location (more to come on this!) have planned for me I really can't sit still... Even better I get to share it with my friend Kristina (Kayture) and a blogger who I am really looking forward to meeting Vanessa from The Haute Pursuit!

Thought I might add a updated travel edition of  'In my bag' for you all, being that I have a sparkling new handbag from Aussie brand After the Apple and my itinerary is looking CRAZY for the next couple months so there's a few staples I want to share with you that I simply can't do without when airborne. Travelling from Australia to Europe demands two flights of around 20 hours in total, one way. You gotta be prepared. Comfort first.

  • Handbag (After the Apple)
  • Eyemask, this is the best I've found. Doesn't squash you eyeballs and accounts for a face to have a nose. (Go Travel)
  • Headphones (Aiaiai)
  • Ipad, my eyes tend to hurt and dry out from watching movies all flight - music is a must. My case is by Bookbook.
  • Neckpillow, I prefer the blow up versions, this one has a soft spongy side to it (Go Travel)
  • Passport and holder (Tommy Hilfiger). I love this holder because it has spaces for all my different sim cards.
  • Toiletries, cleanser (Le Mer), moisturiser and perfume (Jo Malone), toothbrush and toothpaste, small comb, lip balm (lanolips). Freshening up during a flight gives you a new lease of life.
  • Eye drops (not pictured), also an essential - I like the variety with the separate little vials so you have a fresh amount each use. Works better. Eyedrops go out of date quickly when opened.

Won't really be unpacking these essentials because in just three days I'm flying from Vancouver to London... can't stop, wont stop!!

Coming when I wake up in the morning (most unfortunately in 5 hours - being that it's 2am here in Vancouver) is my shoot with Sincerely Jules for Mango! Meanwhile, here's the behind the scenes video with my ramblings.... Damn its so awkward to hear your own voice on video.

So excited to finally post up these images I shot of Jules way back from my trip to Barcelona in May with Mango. Sort of a tick off my dream list shooting this Cali babe - she's such a fashion blogging icon - her style and influence reach so far and wide, imitated by ladies worldwide. So great to once again hang out with her and her man, Temoc. The pair of them are so relaxed about their success, I've learnt alot from both of them.

Concepted this (as per previous video) on Jules' sweetheart personality and effortlessly cool dress sense. Such a breeze to shoot such a gorgeous face - and so much fun to do it with Mango in such a vibrant and exciting city as Barcelona. Lucky me (yet again).

Having landed in London I guess it's time for me to get posting on content I made before I left Sydney... Seems like I'm constantly playing catch up lately - which is great - because it means I'm overloaded with content. Too often the problem with blogging is staying inspired and making your posts interesting everyday. I'm so excited about the few weeks ahead, so many collaborations with great brands and such exciting locations... Dubrovnik, the Amalfi Coast, Instanbul - and with the perfect medium to share it all on.

This is outfit, very casual, everyday kind of attire. The coat I've had a few seasons now and its pretty timeless. Unfortunately  (or fortunately) you can only wear a wool coat for a few weeks of the year in Sydney, so I cherish the chance to style it up. Thanks to the team at Modern Vice for my new camo print loafers. Love them.

Another outfit post - me wearing an a-line skirt. This skirt is a new favourite from Cue - the quality is brilliant and the colours so vivid. Whilst wearing it I received so many compliments about it. These were snapped by my pal James, one half of the blog Kayture that stars the beautiful Kristina Bazan. You can see the  full beauty editorial Kristina and I  shot together on her  blog now, still loving doing these blogger collaborations. Check out more from my Blogger Collaboration series HERE.

These were shot during my recent sojourn to Vancouver, where I was hosted by exciting concept store Secret Location. More on that soon!

So confused about my content at the moment - I have alot of images on ice that I'm delaying for one reason or another and now I have posts remaining from Paris, months ago  - and I'm posting shots right now that were taken yesterday. Slightly addled from jetlag and overwhelmed by events to come... looks like I'll be travelling and doing the whole fashion week circuit for the first time ever this season. Can't wait and slightly terrified at the same time.

I'm presently in Amsterdam which I'm sure you know by now is my home away from home - and I'm loving being back. Today is looking like being over 30 degrees so I'm up at 7am trying to get all my work done in time because I've been promised a canal boat ride later in the day... so thrilled because its really the best way to take in the city.

This outfit is a favourite of mine - I adore the trench (got it on sale 70 percent off!) and its a little bit sad that I know my next few weeks will be too warm to wear it. The shorts/shirts/sunnies combo are so retro and I love the combined palate. Feels good when you style up something that really feels like 'you' huh?

Excited to present the results of my sojourn to Vancouver - a project I took part in with exciting concept store Secret Location alongside fellow bloggers Vanessa (The Haute Pursuit) and Kristina (Kayture) . The store is really one of a kind - housing not only unique designer labels but books, housewares and gadgets AND a world class fine dining restaurant.

Part One of my adventure included a full day style lab in the closed out Secret Location store - such a treat. With the entire store collection at our disposal, each of we three girls were treated a hair and make-up session and then a photoshoot with our completed looks. It was so fun to have the chance to create outfits entirely from clothing that isn't your own - and I took the chance to really get into character. Skirts and dresses! Paired with cute accessories to really pull together a modern, feminine, retro vibe.  I wholeheartedly believe that styling clothing involves just a the right amount of instinct - and for some reason I'm always drawn to wearing alot of colour. I loved that each blogger invited had a totally unique aesthetic from the last - so there was no way any of us were picking up the same pieces to try on.  Hope you like my looks! Kinda repping modern Betty Draper no?

Thanks so much to Secret Location for inviting me to be a part of Style Lab!

How To: Amsterdam

I'm excited to present a series I'm making as part of an advertorial project, documenting the cities I see on my adventures. As you can probably tell - I've fallen in love with the city of Amsterdam. I just find it magical! So beautiful and unique, almost anywhere you go you're on the water - and riding on a canal boat is such a beautiful experience. I've decided to compile a post with a few go to places and activities to do whilst visiting this fab city.

Dam-2

Riding the canals in a boat really is the best way to see the city - and I'd highly recommend hiring your own boat to get around. One option is the paddle boats which I'd seriously advise against attempting... the locals will hate you for it because they are tricky to manoeuvre around the winding canals and bridges and simply involve way too much hard work. If you can, drive a boat yourself or pay someone to do it - you're getting the real dutch experience.

Outfit-84g
Outfit-84f

I've only spent a small amount of time here in the cold - so in my mind this is a city of summer! The truth however, is that Northern europeans get a small dose of sunshine each year and they maximise every minute of it. The parks in Amsterdam are absolutely gorgeous and vibrant with life when the sun is out. The Vondelpark is the most popular but I'm a fan of the smaller Erasmuspark because it's less crowded. On weekends they have concerts and events to attend - but any day is great for a picnic and maybe a sunbake if you're feeling confident. I find it so strange to see people stripping off in the park but I guess if its your only chance to bronze up you're gonna take it!

Outfit-84e
Outfit-84c
Dam-1

The dutch are famous for a few specialities which I need to steer clear of because of the gluten... pancakes and sandwiches, other items made with bread. I've found a couple places I love to eat - Vinnie's Deli - with organic salads and coffee, and then Rainarai for tasty Algerian cuisine.

Outfit-84b
Outfit-84a

If you're confident on a bike then you need to hire one. It's the fastest way to get around and so easy to get from place to place. I used to ride a bike in Sydney but had to quit for two reasons, 1) Sydney is practically mountainous and 2) It's a bit dangerous, drivers never expect a cyclist. Amsterdam is flat as a tack and cyclists rule the city. It seem's like common rules don't apply to those on bikes and you can roam where you please. It's alot of fun when you get the hang of it!

Finally - a note on my outfit - wearing these great Country Road wedges which are totally practical (i can even ride a bike in them!) and a new favourite piece this Viktoria and Woods hoodie. Glam and casual all in one! Getting on the monochrome train like sooooo many other bloggers. Love this trend.

Heartbreakingly beautiful. My friend Sophie - lucky enough to experience our second sunset here in Dubrovnik - this time from the balcony of my hotel room at the lovely Hotel Dubrovnik Palace. Soaking up every moment of my stay so far - the hotel is situated right on the azure blue waters of the Mediterranean sea, where Sophie and I spent a good part of the day in the heat, alternating between the hotel sun beds and ocean swims - this is paradise! Here for a special project, I'm excited to share more... but for now... Don't hate me! I promise, I really am here for work ;)

Thanks so much to ALH Hotels and Mason Rose for inviting me to stay and experience this gorgeous place.

I'm loving the holiday culture on the Mediterranean - everyone here is SOOOOO tanned. There's a plethora of visitors here from all over the world and everyone is the same shade of crispy brown. Needless to say I've been getting a bit of hassle for my alabaster complexion (the filter on these pics makes me deceptively darker) and I'm though I'm trying to avoid bronzing where possible I have noticed a bit of colour happening and a resent deeply that it actually looks quite lovely to have a bit of tan. It's still ok to be pasty people!!

Anyway, I'm embracing the holiday vibe by keeping things simple, wearing the same shorts I've featured loads of times that are slightly too big for me and wear like pyjamas (so soft) and an AA sheer shirt... Denim and tropical print shirt? Tom Selleck in Magnum PI or Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura inspired most definitely.

Now patiently awaiting for my girl Rebecca to join me - to ease my stress at having an extremely important package of mine detained in Croatian customs....Grrrrrr

A second sunset series photographed at the Hotel Dubrovnik Palace - and why not? It's simply such a magical view, I've really never seen a sunset like it, the most perfect  pastel pinks, yellow, orange hues - contrasted with the perfect blue of the Adriatic Sea. Surely nothing can compare!

Guess I can't really add a whole load more here other than I've borrowed my friend Sophie's gorgeous Life With Bird dress for these shots - and I'm the proud owner of the green version featured here on my trip to Thailand. It's a sparkling 35C outside but today is my day for catching up on so much work so I won't be having a whole load of time to enjoy it. Thankfully the heat doesn't die here and an evening swim (i'm talking 8pm) is totally on the cards so it won't be a whole day wasted. Even though I'm here in this magical location my work commitments just can't stop and its hard not to be distracted when I do have the chance for some downtime. Shot these images a couple days ago, Sophie and I had the chance to watch the light fade and listen to some great music, drinking cider. Cheers to the sun and living in moment.

I'm all about blogger collaborations. It's so easy to shoot a girl who 1/ Is really experienced in front of the lens 2/Has impeccable style 3/Has the same crazy career as my own and finally 4/Has her own creative ideas and concepts. Whenever I shoot a blogger it's always about a story that fits their own style and aesthetic - and it's so fast and easy with a team of just two people! No need to back and forth and stop and start for styling or hair and make-up. We can commit to creative ideas with decisiveness and just make them happen!

My latest project with the very gorgeous Rebecca Laurey of the blog Raspberry and Rouge - the concept became pretty obviously right from the get go. Bec has nailed the monochrome trend, with sport elements and just the right combination of masculine/feminine  it became obvious that now was the right time for my first ever black and white blogger fashion editorial!! I found Bec really easy to shoot because she has similar height and facial structure to my own. She's my adopted Dutch sister! Hahah! I've had such an awesome time hanging out with Bec in Amsterdam and I'm so excited to share the results of our project together.

My trip to Dubrovnik was yet another whirlwind adventure - and now its over! But trust me, I've got content coming out of my ears so be prepared for plenty of sweaty and sunny blog posts. As I write this I'm sitting on the train, facing across from Jess and Nicole who are also both tapping away on their laptops. All three of us are here in Italy on the way to Sorrento, working together on a project for what feels like the first time (is it? The three fashion musketeers!) and we're all super busy.

Ok, well now I'm finishing my post at 6am, prior to leaving for another days activities with our tour. Couldn't quite get everything done on the train! You can see more from our trip HERE and HERE and HERE. For now I still have loads of content from everywhere so please excuse my erratic posting... I usually just put up whatever content is most exciting. The internet has given me the attention span of a goldfish. Pretty colours!

Some beauty outtakes from my last shoot with the very gorgeous Kristina Bazan, snapped while we were working together in Vancouver. Shot in hard light - which I usually hate working in - but here we've used the high contrast to compliment a mood. Such a beauty Kristina is! Rest of the shoot, still to come.

Writing yet another post on the train - sitting with my Contiki crew and making tracks back to Dubrovnik. Can't believe I'll be returning so soon! A few days back in Croatia and then to a place I'm extremely excited about - Istanbul! Hopefully I can take more pictures than I've ever done and share as much as possible with you all.

I can't believe my trip to Vancouver was so many weeks ago now - it genuinely feels like yesterday. The past month has been one of the most fast paced I've ever experienced and the craziest part of it is that I still have the fashion weeks to come, where I'll be in attendance at all four cities, NY - London - Milan - Paris. I'm so excited! But also slightly terrified - it's going to be soooo much work and maybe my head will explode. I'm currently staying in my home away from home, Amsterdam, in catch up and planning mode, arranging shows and accommodation and a million other things! Very relieved to have functional wifi - the reason for my blogging hiatus has been because whilst travelling throughout Italy, Croatia and Turkey I endured a real lack of connection. Can you imagine? A blogger without internet! I may have developed a nervous twitch. Every restaurant and cafe break was spent instagramming my life away...

So these images are from my day trip to Phantom Lake. A very special treat from the team at Secret Location, the fabulous designer concept store that brought me to Vancouver - Canada, for an incredible fashion and design experience. Phantom Lake is a half hour flight by sea plane, through the incredible mountainous scenery of British Columbia. I have to admit, I was so taken by the views from the window seat of the plane I shed a few grateful tears. I don't think I could have been treated to anything more special. These shots were taken from both the window of the plane and the lake where we landed. Though I have made many artistic colour adjustments the water really is the most perfect aqua blue shade (see here). Magic.

Thanks so much to the girls at Secret Location for taking me on this special trip to try S'mores (a first!) and take in the incredible scenery that is Phantom Lake, British Columbia.

If you're following me on instagram you're going to know that I've had quite a whirlwind few weeks of travel. Last week I was lucky enough to share a journey with two of my close friends Jess and Nicole as part of a Contiki Chronicles tour through Italy, Croatia and Turkey - hosted by our brilliant guide Chris. After arriving in Rome late in the evening and staying the night, we took a train journey to Sorrento where we stayed for 2 nights, visiting Positano and the incredible island of Capri. More pics to come from there... I've never see a place like Positano, like a scene straight from a movie. All I can home is that my pictures do this place justice. Italy really has so much character - I need to come back to the Amafli coast again - so I can really LIVE this place.  Thanks so much to Contiki for bringing me to the incredible Amalfi coast and sharing all these incredible sites. You can win your own Contiki experience (a Greek Islands sailing trip all exp. paid) and check out more imagery from our trip by talented Aussie photographer Akila Berjaoui here at Contiki Chronicles.

Now that I'm in Amsterdam with a desk to work from and excellent wifi I'm finally having the chance to get on top of all the content I've created over the past few weeks. Having my great friend Rebecca with me for an evening in Dubrovnik, we shot these images in the dying light before adventuring into town to see the sights. I love me an hawaiian shirt - especially one that works dressed up in this fashion with a cinched skirt. Wearing again my trusty Nick Campbell shades (do i wear anything else? I do have two pairs, gold and brushed silver) - I'm feeling just the right blend of quirky and classic that I'm really so fond off. Is it a little bit weird? Then it's definitely for me.
