How To Make The Crispiest Rye Crackers

0

IMG_1217

To be completely honest, I’ve been quite off baking and blogging over the past week.

It’s probably because I overdid it a few weeks back, just baking and not doing much else. It killed me. This past week I took off to recover, rehabilitate and re-inspire myself. I spent it basically doing nothing, I wrote a few tests at school, painted my bedroom/studio and twiddled my thumbs. I knew something was missing during that week… It was food (not that I didn’t eat, I just didn’t make food of my own).

IMG_1229

These crackers are the first thing I have baked since I started working back into my usual routine. I wanted to begin with something simple and therapeutic to create.

In my opinion, and I’m sure I have said this before a million times, making bread is a form of meditation. It is the process of slowing down, to place your energy into a piece of dough and then waiting.

IMG_1186

On a less serious note, let me tell a little more about rye flour. Rye is a completely different grain to any other. Rye flour is much healthier than wheat flour because when it is being produced it’s more difficult to separate the bran (the healthy stuff!) and germ from the grain; this means that the flour will usually contain more nutrients than that of wheat flour. Rye flour contains more fibre and less gluten than other flours, and so when it comes to making bread the dough will be less elastic once kneaded, making for denser dough. This will be perfect for our crackers. It will give them a crunchy and crisp texture. This dough requires no kneading at all, and so if you would like to start making bread, but are scared of kneading then this will be the perfect starter recipe for you! They also taste delightful. They have a very earthy, whole flavour. Enjoy as a snack to fill you up during the day.

IMG_1153

Makes about 30-40 crackers

Ingredients:

  • 500g rye flour, plus a little extra for rolling
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 10g instant dry yeast
  • 400ml lukewarm water

Method:

rye crackers dough

1.Place all of your ingredients in a bowl, except for the yeast and water. Make a well and place the water and yeast in the well. Leave to sit for a minute. Mix the ingredients together until a stiff and sticky dough forms. Oil your bowl, and place the dough to rise for 60 minutes in the bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap to prevent a skin forming on the dough.

2. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and prepare a sheet of baking paper on your oven tray.

3. After 60 minutes remove the dough from the bowl onto a floured surface. Divide the dough into four equal pieces. Roll each piece out using a rolling pin. You want to try and roll it as thin as possible about 2mm thick.

IMG_11674. Using a knife, slice into a large rectangular shape. Then slice your crackers about 6cm by 10cm. The size is completely up to you. Poke each cracker a few times with a fork.

5. Place onto your prepared sheet of a baking paper and then into the oven. Leave to bake for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, turn each cracker over and continue baking for another 5-8 minutes, this will give you crisp crackers. Watch that they don’t burn. Once they are cooked, remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack.

6. Continue the process until you have used up all of your dough.

Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Happy Baking!

My heart skipped a beat when the invitation to view Missoni SS16 at MFW arrived in my inbox.

I first fell hard over the spectacular Fall 2009 collection and have watched for avidly since, sincerely late to the party but enthusiastic all the way. I’ll forever love colour, give me every shade, but never too girly – which is exactly how Missoni delivers it. This season it was about another firm favourite trend of mine, sportswear, coupled with a bit of a tribal approach. I need one of those collared shirts in my life.

Bravo Angela Missoni on another killer collection! It’s always incredible to see how she re-invents the zig zag time and time again.

It’s getting really cozy and one of the best October activities must be cuddling up in the couch with some hot green tea, a cookie and do the most exciting shopping of the year!

I have collected some real goodies here for you in case you’re also hunting for great pieces to add to your wardrobe right now. Summer is amazing yes, but the charm of experiencing all year’s seasons is that you get excited about them. When it comes to fashion, I’m always the most inspired in fall. Do you feel the same way?

This outfit below is something I wore to the Burberry show a few seasons ago in London. Still would wear it again! That day was also the first time me and Zanita crossed paths as she shot me literally running in to the venue. Fun memories!! Anyways, happy shopping lovelies ♥

Checking in with you all from Paris Fashion Week and sharing this look from Milan – it’s not my last one from there! I think I have about 3 looks remaining from New York and 3  from Milan… plus I’ve already snapped one here in Paris, which goes live tonight. Excited for that one because we really had the chance to do something special with the imagery. I’m sure you’ll like!

Wishing I had more hours in the day to edit and share and write more about my fashion week experience with you all. I can’t even put down all my thoughts here because Gustav and I are changing hotels. We’ve both been busy planning the coming weeks ahead, quite challenging to do at the last minute, mostly because its SO expensive to book flights with very little notice. We don’t really have a choice in the matter because much of our work is booked just a week or two before, you always have to be at the ready to pack up and go in this career! Luckily I had a bit of conditioning for this with my modelling career, which generally is even more intense. Typically I wouldn’t learn about a job until the day before! It proved to be pretty stressful when my finances were tight because I never knew what was coming ahead. So often right before I hit 0 on my bank balance, I’d get some sort of windfall. That’s luck for you!

Anyway this was quite the babbling post… I can’t gather my thoughts today! So much to do.

Hope you’re all still enjoying all the Fashion Week content out there. xx

How To Create The Ultimate Outfit Post in Paris

0

We all know for a fine fact that Paris is the worlds most instagrammable city. The proof? It’s the birthplace of the Laduree macaroon and the home of the Eiffel tower. Enough said.

Zanita-H&M-Refinery-29-5

Paris also happens to be one of the most majestic and photogenic cities on the planet, which is why if you’re ever in Paris and you happen to be a blogger (or you just wanna nail some great tourist shots) it’s very important to make the most of your imagery. Paris is the most perfect during Autumn/Fall season – when the leaves become golden and the light is bright white. My favourite time of year for styling and shooting!

Here’s my Top 5 Tips for Snapping Looks in Paris.

1. Don’t be afraid of depth.Zanita-H&M-Refinery-29-1

If you’re shooting a look, you don’t have to resort to shooting against a wall to secure a quality image. So many streets are filled beautiful details that only Paris can offer – and extra points for snaps with the Eiffel Tower and Jardin De Tuillieries.

2.  Pick the right light.

Capitalise on your Paris imagery by always shooting in the right light. Either sunset or sunrise on sunny days and around the middle of the day when it’s overcast. We snapped these images around 5pm and you can see I’ve taken full advantage of direct sun that’s low in the sky – but also used the trees to filter and highlight my face for an interesting effect. It’s amazing how much better the light was at 5.30pm vs 4pm. Waiting always pays off!

Zanita-H&M-Refinery-29-83. Pose by some statues.

There’s endless monuments and beautiful statues in Paris and its a truly epic look to bust some serious poses draped around them. No cheesy smiling and peace signs here! Posing is serious business it’s never going to look out of context when you’re posing up a storm beside a dramatic monument. This is a hugely referenced technique by loads of professional Fashion Photographers. Werk it!

4. Balcony and bridges for the win.

Zanita-H&M-Refinery-29-3Another tried and true method for the perfect Parisian picture is a good pose hanging over a bridge or a balcony. So often even the cheap hotels have gorgeous vista’s from their windows. The ultimate bridge to photograph from in Paris is the Pont Alexandre III, my Lucky Magazine cover was snapped there and you’re guaranteed to spot a bride and groom at almost all times… plus you can catch the Eiffel tower from there!

5. Vary your framing.

If you’re going to get the full scope of Paris in its glory, it’s a great idea to take a few steps back and capture the city in broad view. My favourite wide framing is to place yourself right in the bottom of the image and have the scenic details stretching up, leading the eye in a portrait style shot.

Gustav and I snapped these images in collaboration with H&M and Refinery 29 for the Autumn campaign #HMFALLINLOVE. I was feeling so chic in this look – it’s the perfect outfit heading day to night and an added bonus for me, it’s super comfortable. Look forward to sharing more Autumn/Fall looks from Paris and Fashion Week really soon!

Managing A Full-time Job and Side Hustle

0

e1adfb66991d7e87891246e649c0a93a
Most people shy away from starting a side hustle if they’re already working 40 hours a week because who has the energy or time to manage mini gigs, care for a family, and then satiate in life a little – all simultaneously? It’s certainly draining, but the upside is that your effort may bring the possibility of turning your hobby into a career. As an individual who constitutes all the above, I genuinely believe that if you truly enjoy doing something, you’ll find the energy for it regardless of how exhausted you may feel, you will make the time to do it no matter the hour, and lastly, you will work around your schedule if you have the desire. No excuses – work on that side hustle and here are some tips on managing that:

– Make time.

Just being honest – you’ll hardly have time, but pick and choose your battles and you’ll learn how to maximize it quickly. While people are out on a Friday drinking wine and dancing, I’m at home hustling to cook a meal and put the kids to bed so I can start writing my night away, googling ideas, and preparing images. Also, lunch breaks at my full-time job are basically nonexistent – I spend that time writing and brainstorming as I devour my meal. Then by the time I get home, I’m canceling out TV time, social media, and pointless web browsing in order to make time for my side work – this applies to my weekends as well. The excess work also results in waking up earlier and staying up later (i.e. sleepless nights).

You just need to know that your schedule will never be optimal juggling multiple tasks, but you work around it and make shit happen.

Once you understand the time commitment you’ll need to make, it’ll be easier to manage.

– Be flexible.

Only take on what you can and start slowly so you can give yourself time to adapt to a new and changing schedule. You will learn how to say “No” some weeks and other times, you may be saying nothing, but yes! And as I alluded to earlier, you might even pull an all-nighter, drink excessive coffee, and feel like a zombie. But then days when you won’t have anything to do will come so you can use that time to crash and snooze. You will also need to take breaks from your side hustle in order to regain energy and maintain your sanity. It’s obvious now that your weeks will never be set in stone so be prepared to adjust both emotionally and physcially at anytime.

– Seek help.

We have people in our lives for a reason so seek help from your friends and family (of course, pay back their efforts). With kids and an already demanding job, I need a lot of help and I’m so ever grateful for everyone around me who’s willing to lend a hand. My family helps sweep my kids up from the babysitter and school which spares me an hour and then I have friends willing to take my kids out for a bit, which just allows me wind down and clear my mind. You’ll find that most people want to and are able to help if you just ask – use it to your advantage. (Caveat: Always show them you’re grateful.)

– Maintain the fuel.

I think one of the most important things to never lose sight of is your desire. With everything happening so fast and time never being on our side, it’s easy to become overwhelmed, lose interest, and forget why you ever started. However, if you thoroughly enjoy something enough, it shouldn’t really feel like work while you’re doing it.

So whatever you choose to do as your side hustle, keep the fire burning, don’t become jaded, and find a reason to love it forever.

A show to go down in fashion history…

What’s been touted as Alexander Wang’s last run at Balenciaga, this show was quite the side step to what I expected for Balenciaga but by no means a step back for the hot brand. With Biggie and Tupac blaring as a series of the coolest models and It girls strolled down the runway, it became clear that a new kind of ease was being represented in the luxury area. There was alot to love about these intimate and sleepwear inspired collection.

Counting my lucky stars to have been present for this one.

The Music Playlist That Helped Me Survive Fashion Month

Hey Lovers!

I hope this doesn’t come across as ungrateful… but I’m so happy that Fashion Month has drawn to a close and everything can return to business as usual. I was excited as it got under way, every day was an adventure, really fast paced – and I thrived on the pressure. By now, it’s worn me down and I’m really glad to see the back of it. Finally, I get to sit and sift through all my content and share it with you! That’s my own brand of recovery/therapy. Editing.

Anyway – these tracks have given life over the past month, soothing and delicious. That first track has been particularly revitalising, the lyrics really remind me to persevere and grow into a person more resilient and hard working. I select these songs by listening to a bunch of spotify playlists on repeat, waiting for some tracks to rise to the surface as my favourites. Hope you like!

I still think it’s crazy we can use wifi on a plane… I guessing this won’t be the last blog post I write from the sky. NYC bound!

Soon we’ll all constantly be connected with wifi – Is that a good thing? During all this fashion week chaos I’ve felt the constant pull of my phone and email – but now it’s over – and I’m looking forward to some kind of digital release. Gustav and I are actually going on a weekender somewhere out of New York… do you guys have any recommendations? We’re thinking Washington DC, so we can be proper tourists. It always feels like an appropriate destination because – We’re moving to NYC! I guess I’ll have to fill you all in on that in another post, and on my snapchat (its ZANITAZANITA).

I keep mentioning it, but I still have loads more to share from Fashion Month, yesterday I attended the Ellery show so editing that is going to be a priority once I’ve landed. Something else high on my list – catching up on good health and exercise. It seems every second person I spoke to in Paris was going through some sort of cold or illness. I just went to use the bathroom here on the plane, towards the end of this long flight it’s pretty brutal to look in the mirror. My skin looks grey. Bring on the vegetables and physical activity.

5 Steps to Developing Self-Confidence

0
0

“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within.”

(Elisabeth Kubler-Ross)

6d638061dc8210bc5daf90fea4cf78edThe biggest one thing I believe prevents people from pursuing what they want most out of life is the lack of confidence. Fear signifies the absence of it along with comfort and security. For some of us, self-confidence may be something we struggled with growing up and simultaneously, something we never really learned to overcome. Unfortunately, it’s an absolute necessity to chase your dreams, to escape the standard cookie-cutter life, and to truly be yourself. And because of this, it’s something we must work on every single day. As humans, we’ll always have fears and doubts, but with a bit of confidence, we’re guaranteed to defeat the uncertainty. So if you’re struggling with it or can use a little boost, here are 5 steps to help you get there:

#1 Groom yourself

We naturally feel better about ourselves when we know we look the part. If you know the impact a positive image has, you should strive to look your best every single day (and if you don’t know, well…maybe you should try). Take a shower, blow out your hair, put your makeup on, and clad in your best garments. A bright lipstick or pair of killer heels can make a world of difference. Don’t believe me? Give it a shot.

#2 Accept what you can’t change.

There will always be someone better than you in different facets of life in the same sense that you are outpacing someone else at something. This is fact. You won’t ever be 100% satisfied with yourself but you can accept yourself for what you are. My brother used to always tell me if you don’t like something, change it and if you can’t change it, change the way you think about it. Once you learn to accept something at face value, you’ll become happier with yourself and when you’re happier, you are more confident.

#3 Keep a journal.

“Nothing builds self-esteem and self-confidence like accomplishment.” (Thomas Carlyle)

You fail some, you win some, and you should capitalize on your wins to build your confidence. Keep a journal and document them. When you achieve a substance of success in one part of your life, you generally feel better in all other aspects so write about all of it – your goals and how you feel when you achieve them or when you do something that makes you feel awesome. The purpose of documenting your successes is so you can use them to reflect on your self-worth when you’re feeling so worthless. It’s a mere reminder for you to realize the kind of wonderful human you are.

#4 Do things that make you happy.

Yes, do the things that make you happy, but also make sure that the outcome of what you’re doing will also make you proud. We all make stupid decisions and they exist so we can learn from them (*not repeat them*). You’ll certainly be more sure of yourself if you have a strong track record of doing things you’re content with and not constantly regretting.

#5 Refine your support network.

You put out what you take in so consume carefully. Surround yourself with people with positive vibes, the ones who believe in you and support you. I find that it’s easier to believe in myself when my support network also sees the potential in me – they always want to bring me up when I’m at my worst. Get rid of that negativity around you.

All in all –

“Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.”

The Day I Went ‘Body Conscious’

0
0

It’s a really rare occurrence for me to wear something so form fitting.

Everyone has their hang ups – I’m typically uncomfortable being/looking sexy. It stems a little from being so tall, I tend to draw some looks for the simple fact and I don’t like it. It’s not missed on me – the irony that someone who created a site about and named after themselves isn’t fond of attention – but it’s a particular kind of attention, from men.

It’s not something I’ve ever learnt to appreciate and makes me pretty uncomfortable.

So as you can imagine, I was a little nervous stepping out in this look, but I just loved the style so much! I was gratefully invited to Missoni HQ in Milan to select an outfit for the show  (that post is HERE) and couldn’t resist going all in with the seventies vibes. So it’s probably the most ‘figure revealing’ outfit I’ve worn here in at least 5/6 years – but it felt great! In a sense it felt like getting into character, like Beyonce with her ‘Sasha Fierce’ alter ego, but a hell of alot less co-ordinated at dancing.  I was some kind of retro superhero fantasy girl!

I hope I can feel more confident wearing these kind of outfits in the future… but then again, I also hope guys would quit making lecherous and inappropriate comments to women and that seems unlikely.

How To Make The Crunchiest Flourless Apple Crumble

0
0

I don’t know about you, but to me a soggy crumble with an overdose of apple is just not my cup a tea.

IMG_1876

You exactly know what I’m talking about. It’s when that crumble melts into the apple and becomes mushy and oily. I couldn’t think of much else I’d rather avoid eating. That’s why I came up with this customisable flourless apple crumble.

You basically make the apple and crumble separately and then when it comes time to serve, people can choose how much crumble or how apple they would like. In this case everyone is happy. I know that I like my crumble ratio to apple to be 2:1 (more crumble than apple), but what about lets say let’s say ‘Ronald’ who likes more apple than crumble or what if let’s say ‘Leslie’ is not in the mood for the crumble and would simply just like some soft apples. I can go on with different and more fascinating scenarios all day, but that not why I’m here. Luckily ‘Ronald’, ‘Leslie’ and I  all get what we want in the end.

IMG_1864

Because the crumble is baked separate to the apples, it stays crunchy like a crumble should be. Believe it or not, the crumble in this recipe is flourless. I’ve replaced the flour with ground almonds and rolled oats. Besides for adding extra warm flavours, they provide the crumble with even more crunchy texture as they toast in the oven. It’s also so easy to make. All you do is combine all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix then bake, cool and crumble!

Another problem I have with apple crumbles is that they can be so sickly sweet and make me feel sick. That’s why this recipe includes very little sugar at all. In fact, the apples are free of refined sugar. I used agave syrup which is a natural sugar alternative harvested from tree sap. You could easily replace that with honey or maple syrup if you like. I’ve flavoured the apples with vanilla, lemon zest and a little bit rosemary. The rosemary provides a subtle warm flavour, which works very well together with the lemon. The lemon lifts and freshens the apples making them light and zingy.

Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

IMG_1895

Flourless Apple Crumble

Makes enough for 4-6 people

Ingredients:IMG_1827

Crumble:

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup ground almonds
  • ½ cup chilled butter
  • ½ cup castor sugar

Apples:

  • 10 apples of your choice
  • ½ cup agave syrup or honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla exract
  • ½ tsp rosemary leaves
  • the zest of 1 lemon

Method:

IMG_1855

Crumble:

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and prepare a rectangular baking tray (size does not matter).

Place all of your crumble ingredients into a bowl and mix until crumbly dough forms.

Spread out across your prepared baking tin and place into the oven. Leave to bake for 10 minutes until light golden brown. Remove from the oven and leave to cool completely before breaking up into a crumble with a spoon or fork. Place into a bowl and leave to one side for the moment.

Apples:

Peel and core your apples. Slice into bite size pieces.

Combine all of your apple ingredients into a saucepan over a medium heat. Leave to cook for 5-10 minutes, until the apples have softened slightly and the liquid has reduced to thick syrup. Stir occasionally.

Remove from the heat and serve together with the crumble.

Alexander McQueen SS16 Dream Creatures – MFxZanita

Untitled-1

I’ll forever be an escapist.

It’s why I love style so much, because each day you dress to style yourself as the character you want to me – and you can style yourself as someone completely different the next.

So what character wears these dreamy creations by Sarah Burton? I can see a dozen fantasies, my favourite being the fey creature of the forest or otherworld. One day I hope to have the chance to loan some of these looks, to create that imagery that comes to mind when I imagine the story of the wearer. I love period and fantasy films, so it would be exciting to take my references from there. This collection would be the perfect starting point.

It was such a delight to be present and photograph these beautiful dresses at Alexander McQueen in Paris! Hope you all enjoy these images. There’s still much more to come from the runways of Fashion Month from me.

The Best Fall Fashion Investment You Can Make – MFxZanita

I’ve never really been one for coats… but that’s only because I’ve lived in Australia most of my life.

StellA 1

Now living in Sweden has leant me to consider a good coat the most valuable fashion investment in my Fall/Winter wardrobe – and I don’t mess around on quality, because a bad coat can lose both it’s warmth and their shape. It’s actually why buying a vintage coat is a wonderful idea because it’s already been tried and tested – and typically much kinder on the hip pocket!

I had the chance to wear this Stella McCartney beauty a couple times in Paris – the weather is really starting to get colder! It’s amazing how much fancier I look in such quality piece, even it its just with jeans. Like I’m here for business!

Style is great way to make a good impression.

Selecting A Look For Sportmax SS16 Milan Fashion Week

sportmax-coat-furla-silver-bag-platforms

Not going to lie, it’s pretty damn cool being invited to select a runway look to wear to a show at Fashion Week.

The truth is, some of the looks from the runway don’t go into production, more than you would expect – so this could be a one of a kind! Pretty special right? Then again, I could also spot someone on the street wearing this next week. Either way it was fabulous (and a bit sweaty) to wear this unique total look to the Sportmax SS16 Show at Milan Fashion Week.

The show itself was pretty fabulous and I’m going to share those images with you really soon. For now I’m doing my best to avoid doing too much work over the weekends in an effort to reclaim some of my life after Fashion Month. Tonight Gustav and I are going to see the New York Rangers play at Madison Square Garden. Excited to see the whole spectacle!  Hope you’re taking it easy too xx

But wait – there’s more!

2A5A2603

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, here’s some more of me posting stuff from Fashion Month. Have I also mentioned here before how much I love anything Preen? That is, both the fresh and youthful Preen Line and more sophisticated but still fun – Preen by Thornton Bregazzi.

This dress gives me life. It’s just so flattering and easy to wear – I’ve styled it here with sneakers but you could just as easily rock a heel and wear this puppy at an event or a wedding. I love the flocked detailing contrasted with the chequer and the floaty, dreamy, asymmetric hemline. It has a whole load of personality but could really look good on anyone.

It feels great to be back in NYC. When these images were snapped I was so busy running around to meetings and shows but felt full of inspiration to get things done and work hard. It’s why Gustav and I have made the snap decision to move here. Gotta live for now right? Life is a major adventure and we gotta leap at opportunities as they come.

Ok – gotta get back to living my weekend! Happy Sunday xxx

4ffc85fa34fbaccf7abcba4e9da567a7For as long as I’ve been alive, I’ve been a huge advocate of setting goals both big and small constantly – it exists in my daily tasks, my 3-month, 1-year, 5-year, and life-long plan. Though I haven’t always been successful in checking off my list, I’ve surely learned a thing or two about how to become more effective at it. Read on to learn more about my process.

Decide what you want to accomplish.

What is it exactly that you want to do – it’s simple as that. Be specific, but realistic because you’re not going to be a millionaire tomorrow or famous within the next week. Then write it down and tell it to yourself repeatedly until it is engrained in your mind and instinctive to your soul because after it becomes that natural, commitment to the goal becomes intuitive.

Stop focusing on the actual goal.

Goals provide a good big picture direction, but they don’t always ensure you’re on the right path to getting there. So once you’re set on a goal and you know you’ve committed, stop focusing on the actual end result. Instead, hone in on your process and system for how you go about accomplishing your goal(s) on a regular basis. For instance, if you decide I want to become a Fashion Blogger for a living, you don’t keep your focus on becoming a fashion blogger or the glorious life of Zanita, Chiara, or Rumi. You focus on unique but approachable styling, taking beyond beautiful pictures, writing witty commentary, and upping your social media game.

Key takeaway: Always strive for progress because results don’t happen overnight.

Re-assess.

Then you need to make time to review your progress (and be sure to do it often) – is it working? What’s not working? If necessary, change your methodology and re-assess again. This is a constant practice of checks and balances and it’s a requisite in propelling yourself forward.

Adapt.

Understand that there are circumstances beyond your control and you can’t always foresee what they may look like or when they will occur. Therefore, you need to be able to act accordingly in those instances. It’s much easier to make a small change to your process when reacting to an unfavorable situation than it is to change your entire goal. Always be willing to change.

Repeat.

Do it all over again and you’ll eventually find a system that works for you.

So remember – Set specific, realistic goals to give yourself direction, then focus on refining your process for getting there, re-evaluate your development, edit where needed, and hit replay.

– Susan

Coco Rocha - Monica Bestek

Meet internationally renowned and all-round lovely Supermodel Coco Rocha, mum and entrepreneur  who visited Sydney last month as the Ambassador for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival 2015. This woman is amazing – not only is she gorgeous – she’s incredibly down to earth and extremely funny! I got the chance to catch Coco for a quick chat one-on-one.

It’s not everyday you get to sit down and chat with a longed limbed, high cheek boned, sharp-witted supermodel.

Coco Rocha - Monica BestekCoco hails from Canada, first making her mark on the scene in 2007 when she Irish danced down the runway for Jean Paul Gaultier’s Scottish Highlands-inspired Fall/Winter collection. A talent that has gained her over a million instagram followers, another example of how this beauty is changing the game and taking control of her modelling career.

Rocha is an extremely busy lady, having travelled to Vancouver – Honolulu – Sydney – New York – Paris – London over the last three weeks and bringing her adorable bub Ioni along with her. Obviously I’m a great advocate of dressing up for fun.

That means colour and comfort, prints and denim, flats and loose silhouettes. So how can I have my cake and eat it too? I feel like this look I wore in Paris for the Balenciaga show (don’t miss my edit HERE) still ticked all my boxes but also repped some really Lady Boss vibes. Here’s why!

  1. 2A5A7757The H&M booties are mid height, so they were comfortable, but the patent finish takes it up a notch. A girl who means business needs to look the part. In the words of a fellow Aussie bad ass babe we know “I’m so fancy”.

  2. The skirt is Ellery… need I say more? It’s really the satin finish and the cut that make this piece so elegant. The real take home is that it’s super comfortable – and wearing a longer skirt means there’s no risk of flashing my knickers which is decidedly NOT something a confident girl in control of the situation should be allowing to happen.

  3. This shirt is from Balenciaga (squeee!!) and it’s just a great cut for my body – athletic styles. Means I’m feeling confident because I know I’m doing it right and the stripes give it just enough personality that, in the words of Riri and Bey, I’m feeling myself.

  4. This Delvaux handbag is the most elegant and beautifully made piece I own. Damn it’s so lovely I feel like I should be wearing it as a crown and not a bag… maybe for another post.

Seems so easy doesn’t it? You can still dress for comfort but look like you mean business. Get it!

top, Balenciaga

skirt, Ellery

bag, Delvaux

boots, H&M

necklace, Swarovski

watch, Mont Blanc
