What It’s Like To Go To New York Fashion Week

zanita-whittington-michael-dumler-nyfw-ss15-nylon-magazine-1024x682

I’ve been lucky enough to have attended #NYFW five times now…

Nicole Warne and Zanita Morgan

Each time has brought along a ton of new experiences. The best thing about fashion week would have to be the city itself. There’s something new and exciting around ever corner, the food is spectacular, the people are larger than life and you can really find whatever you’re looking for. It’s the city of opportunity.

The toughest part is getting here.

Flights from Australia are really expensive, accommodation is ABSURDLY expensive and getting around (call me a diva, but heels on the subway are not an option for me!) over the course of the week will hurt your wallet when it comes to Uber/taxis. It’s something I’ve weighed up in the past and decided to pass on seasons because the cost/benefit simply didn’t make sense for my business. Thankfully I’ve reached the point where it’s worth it for me, because I’m booking jobs during the week and because it helps me build strong relationships with important clients.

I feel a little bit awkward talking about the ‘visibility’ factor. 10 years of being in front of the camera has meant I’m not shy at all about being photographed – and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t benefited over the years, being published in  street style articles. There’s an element about it that people in the industry find embarrassing, maybe it’s also that it’s really bloggers who embraced the scene better than anyone – and not everyone really supports the ‘new guard’.  So that’s another reason to go to fashion week… which means, your wardrobe better be worth it!

1X2A9856_ZANITA+MORGAN_Candice+Lake

Thankfully, I’m able to loan pieces now to survive me the week. I wouldn’t like to take any of those clothes home because I’m a practical girl and I don’t need it all! Wearing something you feel fabulous in is essential because arriving at the shows can be a crazy experience. There’s hundreds of photographers and sometimes you can find yourself swarmed by them which is totally surreal and a lesson in being self conscious. The chaos outside is more intense than the process of getting inside to your seat. There must be so much money being invested in what’s going on outside the shows these days…

Sometimes I feel like the action on the runway is over in the blick of an eye!

There’s such a build up to getting dressed and getting in and out, that the few minutes of actual runway show goes by way too quickly. It’s magic when you see something really innovative or just plain beautiful. I also love the music, how it takes you on the journey. I always dream of editorials when I’m watching the runway and it’s a reminder of why I fell in love with this industry in the first place.

8406-Le-21eme-Adam-Katz-Sinding-Zanita-Whittington-Mercedes-Benz-New-York-Fashion-Week-Fall-Winter-2015-2016_AKS4900

My time in New York is crazy, every moment gets filled with action. Usually I’ll endeavour to not exceed 3 or 4 shows a day, simply because I don’t want to take the seats of someone who could deliver more to a designer. There’s only so much I can share with you all – because I’m just one person! This season we have Sania with us so I’m pretty pumped to create even more fashion content with her by my side. Beyond shows there’s events, meetings and showings – and of course the parties, which are arguably the most important because that’s when the real networking begins. I HATE networking… I’m just bad at it – but I’ve come to accept that it’s the best way further yourself in the industry. Sometimes I find its a bit shallow but I also recognise it doesn’t have to be. I like to give my best to relationships so I find it stressful to build so many.

nyfw-style-1X2A3713_v_11feb13_b_592x888

New York Fashion Week can be a whole load of fun but if you want to make the best of it, it really should be one of the hardest working weeks of the year. I really hope I can share more and more this season with the help of our little team – and I hope you all enjoyed this retrospective on some of my #nyfw looks!

How To Eat In Sydney: Spring Dining Guide

0
0

Hello!

I’m James.. The one behind the food and dining Instagram @food_feels .. I started the account around early 2014, which was around the first time I met Zanita so it’s pretty awesome to now be collaborating with the team!

If you have seen my account before, I take a lot of photos of food. I have been lucky enough to do quite a bit of travelling recently, so you will find a mix of cafes, restaurants, bars, street markets, hotels and destinations along the way. You will quickly notice my favourite time of the day is breakfast and I travel whenever I can.

I currently live in Sydney where we have a constantly evolving dining culture so there’s always opportunity to try (and shoot) something new. I am moving to London in a month, not timed ideally by me as I will be going from Winter straight back into Winter however I have a few precious weeks to take advantage of any Non-London weather!

I thought it was about the right time to write this first post being the first week of Spring in Sydney. It’s clear to see when a bit of warmth hit our shores as the beaches fill up and the outdoor bars and restaurants overflow with patrons beginning Summer early.Screen Shot 2015-09-01 at 11.43.39 pm

What goes well this time of year are drinking and dining outdoors, I’ve named a few venues I’ve recently visited that welcomes this weather.. The kind of places I would take my friends if I had overseas visitors wanting to experience a bit of Sydney.

Watson Bay Boutique Hotel

They have a great menu to share, the soft shell crab sliders and lobster rolls are perfect to pick at.

Right on the edge of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs with a view towards Sydney Harbour – this hotel has one of my favourite beer gardens. Whether it’s a Friday lunch or Sunday drinks this is the perfect venue for lunch and drinks. They have a great seasonal menu that fits everyone from sliders, Mac & Cheese to seafood platters. I have spent many many days here, including their last New Years Eve party andScreen Shot 2015-09-02 at 12.59.30 am it’s always a great time.

North Bondi Fish

Make sure you get the prawn tacos, lots of them!

I visited here recently with some family and we all greed we could of sat there all evening. We arrived at 2pm and to anyone that knows Bondi.. It’s quite easy to sit back and just people watch with our iconic beach in the background. It also helps being served amazing seafood dishes from one of Sydney’s best chefs Matt Moran.

The Potting Shed, The Grounds of Alexandria

‘The Shed Platter’ comes with cured meats, fruits, picked vegetables & international cheesesScreen Shot 2015-09-01 at 11.46.49 pm

The Grounds of Alexandria has set the bar high in the Sydney eatery world. It’s little brother – The Potting Shed is the perfect addition. An outdoor bar/restaurant serving rustic tapas style dishes as well as wholesome meals and experimental cocktails that suit the surroundings perfectly.

Ottos, Woolloomooloo

For a special occasion the Spaghetti all’Aragosta is a clear winner

I wouldn’t say this is somewhere I eat every week, or every month for that matter, but it is somewhere which is really hard to beat for a long lunch. Not just for the food, but the atmosphere that Woollomooloo wharf brings at lunchtime, packed with boats, bars, people and restaurants. Now the food.. Italian is my favourite cuisine and I cannot fault the food here. I was lucky enough to meet the head chef Richard Ptacnik, his passion for what he does, mixed with his twist on modern and original Italian makes this place a stand-out.

10 Things About Fashion Week In Stockholm SS16

0

You know that moment when you see something so pretty, your heart skips a beat?

That happened when I saw the magical dresses at the Ida Sjöstedt SS16-show. I ended up texting Ida (the designer) heart emojis during the show and ran backstage right after. Feeling so lucky and happy that I managed to snap these photos. How beautiful?! Agh, makes me so proud about Swedish fashion!! So now i thought I’d guide you through…

.…Fashion Week in Stockholm…

…which really is just three days long but yet very intense and full of inspiring shows, events and parties. I appreciate the fact that all locations are pretty much in the same spot and that the weather was perfection this season. NYFW is just about to start but first i thought I’d tell you about 10 things you should know about Fashion Week in Stockholm and the SS16-shows:
.

.

1. Ida Sjöstedt SS16

Ok, I sort of already gave you my main impression of this show but just look at this… dreamy beautiful gorgeousness. Can’t wait to try on all of them. Ida Sjöstedt is known for her very special design which maybe isn’t the first thing you think of when you think of Swedish fashion, am I right? I think her work is refreshing around all the minimalism that takes up the majority of the pieces that are shown. I really liked that this was the opening show of the ‘week’.

2. The White Suit

The most definite trend from the Swedish designers for spring 2016 is the white suit. Almost every show had a white amazing suit in it and here are a few favourites. From left to right: By Malina, Carin Wester, Lamija, Stylein

3. What people were wearing

Really exciting to see that Style.com (that now is redirecting to Vogue.com!) feature Fashion Week in Stockholm and also the streetstyle. Streetstyle just never gets boring and here are some of the snaps that Søren Jepsen shot for Vogue.com/Style.com. See all the images HERE.

4. Stand SS16

STAND is a quite new Swedish designer that makes expertly designed and crafted high fashion leather pieces at an accessible price. How lovely? Really loving these two pieces from the presentation they had at Bukowskis.

5. The Carin Wester SS16 Shoes

These are the shoes everybody were talking about. By Carin Wester. I borrowed the image from the Swedish Fashion Blogger Madelene Billman. Aren’t they awesome?!

6. Lunch at Berns Asiatiska

Since almost all the shows were helt at Berns Salonger it was the perfect excuse to have the delicious sushi at Berns Asiatiska. Yummmieeeee!!

7. Filippa K SS16

Filippa K has been one of the most popular brands in Sweden lately and I was very excited to go to their show. Really loved that burgundy dress and also all the models were really beautiful!! Congratulations also to Nina Bogstedt who is the designer for Filippa K and who got the Damernas Värld Guldknappen 2015 award this year. ♥

8. Altewai Saome

Gorgeous, just gorgeous!!! The sisters behind this fashion house always give Swedish minimalism some twists, love that!! PS. Giovanna Battaglia was there!!

9. Björn Borg

Björn Borg always makes a crazy show and this time they decided to build up the planet Mars since the theme and collection was all about the Mars One Project. Have you heard of it? A bunch of people gets a one way ticket to Mars in 2027 (?!) and they’ll make a reality show about it. Anyways: the Björn Borg collection was all about what these folks should wear while training for their new lives at Mars hehe.. oh and 4 of the chosen ones attended the show. If they actually go to planet Mars, doesn’t it make them Aliens?? Borrowed this photo form Julian Hernandez

10. Lamija SS16

A very new Swedish designer that everybody were talking about was Lamija. Here is a photo I snapped of the finale:

Getting Prepared For New York Fashion Week With Sania & Zanita

When NYFW Is Right Around The Corner

Sitting in my hotel bed at The Standard Hotel and about to get ready for my first New York Fashion Week show this season!

It’s really amazing to be back in New York! Thanks to both Zanita Studio and GANT/Damernas Värld (the 75 year old beautiful fashion magazine in Sweden that I work for) I got the opportunity to once again experience fashion week in New York. My third year in a row!! Exciteeeed!!

Find more photos and the outfit details on this outfit on my blog HERE

So curious about what shows I’ll get to attend haha, some of the tickets get confirmed on the same day. Managed to score Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger last year (to name a few favourites) and had some of my most amazing fashion experiences ever (google POLO Ralph Lauren SS15 show in Central Park.. I was there, and still dying about it..)!! Not sure how to top off last year but doing my best!!

So far so good!!

This time we arrived a few days before the shows start which has been great since we could settle down, go to some PR agencies and pull looks, do meetings, kill the jetlag, get manicure/pedicure and so on! Such a luxury.. usually I’ve arrived in the big apple and just rushed to a show and it’s all been very chaotic. Things do feel pretty chaotic already but hopefully you guys will sense some sense from us here haha..

1_sania-claus-demina-new-york-city-NYC-2015-i-have-this-thing-with-floors_7

I was packing a whole night before going here…really tried to put together all my looks in advance which is very hard since you never know what the weather will be like. Hopefully I’m all set. I did bring loads of clothes last year too, but still ended up feeling like I had nothing to wear haha… crossing fingers that won’t happen too much this time.

Very excited about the two shows I’m attending tonight: GANT and RODEBJER. Sweden represent!! Just finished styling my look. The initial idea was to wear a full look by each designer for both shows but since I have less than no time to change between them I’ll go for a Rodebjer white shirt paired with an amazing pair of grey trousers by Gant. It’ll be a pretty casual look that will be topped off with my Stella McCartney slingbacks. Hopefully I get to snap a photo of my look and show you on my blog (find it HERE) later.

3_sania-claus-demina-outfit-new-york-city-acne-studios-culotte-esprit-shirt-zara-suede-pumps-soho-2015

OK, gotta steam my shirt and put some makeup on. Time flies and I need to go through some emails and get some work done before I meet up with the Swedish ELLE Editor in Chief Cia Jansson in the lobby who’s also here with GANT. The meeting up with Zanita at the show, fun!! Lovely to chat with you a bit guys!! ♥

My Top Five Reasons To Go Running

0
0

mbrun nike

monnike

nike mb

nike running

Definition: to move at a speed faster than a walk, never having both or all the feet on the ground at the same time.

To run and to move is a brilliant thing. I don’t mean driving to the gym, dropping your bag and getting on a treadmill – I hate that idea! I’m talking about getting dressed, walking out your front door and hitting the pavement. Getting your body moving, getting out into the fresh air and out seeing the world.

That’s what I’m talking about.

When you run, you can see and appreciate amazing things at a different pace, you can go anywhere, you can feel the wind rushing through your hair and your blood pumping – Its empowering, it’s energising!

You don’t have to run far, just get out and move. Getting up and giving it a go is the first step in actually getting better and experiencing things you wouldn’t experience if you simply slept in or jogged on a treadmill.

I think running is a beautiful thing.

You were born to move. You have a body. Why not use it?

So, here are my top five reasons to run!

Your body was made to move.

You don’t have to go fast, you don’t have to go far you just have to try it – it’s enough to reap it’s own reward.

It clears your head.

Running can be an effective and incredible form of meditation. Taking time to focus and reflect on things. Just be in that moment, be present. Living without stress is true freedom.

It makes you feel invigorated.

You feel free. I feel like I can take on the world when I finish a run, it might be hard – sometimes I cant breath and sweat is dripping – but once that goes away, you feel so amazing. Don’t underestimate the power of natural endorphins!

Fresh air is good for you.

If you are stuck in an office all day getting out into the fresh air will help you refocus and relax, ready to smash the rest of the day. A new physical perspective can give you a fresh mindset.

You can always improve.

So what’s the best thing about running you ask? You can always improve. You can go further or faster, or both – its up to you how much you want to push yourself. You can determine how much or little of a challenge you want. It’s super easy to track your progress by timing and monitoring your distance. Improving and gaining can be so rewarding, it can inspire you to push further and further. As you become fitter, you improve your quality of life. It’s always a win/win situation!

So guys, if you like to run – awesome! Keep it up you little legend! Let us know what made you start running in the first place and why you love it. If you never run, maybe you should try giving it a chance because you’ll likely surprise yourself. You’re never too unfit or too old to just get out there and get started. Let me know how your first run goes!

Zimmermann SS16

Just days into the chaos and I’ve already experienced what’s easily going to be one of my greatest Fashion Week highlights, an exclusive preview of the  Zimmermann SS16 collection and the opportunity to shoot one of the looks ahead of the show, which is happening as this post goes live.

zimmermann-ss16-beading

I gasped as I walked into the light filled studio, buzzing with people and all the last minute preparations that are involved with creating a runway show in New York. Centre, designer Nikky Zimmermann, seemingly a zen master fixing an elegant looking model in one of the most painstakingly detailed dresses I’ve seen from her yet. I could have stayed a fly on the wall and watched the team work for hours, planning the looks, making last minute adjustments, pairing the right girl with the right dress.

And the collection. Wow!

I don’t really feel I make for a great fashion writer. I could tell you how I though it was beautiful and amazing but it’s not really going to express my impression of the collection. I hope I never lose that excitement that bubbles up inside me when I see something that I know will be remembered for a long time. I was a little lost for words speaking to Nikki about how excited I was to see all of it in motion. The craftsmanship is unlike anything I’ve seen, to the point where I’d say the collection has some haute couture elements to it. The Zimmermann girl is walking dream.

Can you tell I’m a fan?

Looking forward to all of you seeing the rest of the beautiful pieces from the Zimmermann runway show in NYC today. Bravo to Nikki and her team for what must have been truly painstaking work and an absolute triumph.

10 Quotes to Inspire the Doer in You

0
0

We’re all doers at heart but there will be times when we become uninspired, discouraged, and shot down. Even worse, we might just be totally lost, waiting for a new opportunity, or praying for a miracle. And when that happens, how do you re-discover the spark that got you started and kept you moving? We can always start by looking at those successful individuals who preceded us and “made it happen” since they really paved the way for us, proving that something someone once thought was impossible could be done. Or at minimum, we can regain inspiration from them. On my down days, I always love reading some good quotes so here’s a grand roundup of my favorites to re-energize the doer from deep within you (and also, a perfect way to start a new season):

tig1

Conditions are never perfect. “Someday” is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you. If it’s important to you and you want to do it “eventually,” just do it and correct course along the way.” (Timothy Ferriss)

Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more you sweat, the luckier you get. (Ray Kroc)

When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. (Lao Tzu)

May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears. (Nelson Mandela)

There is no next time, no time outs, no second chances. Sometimes, it’s now or never. (Alan Bennett)

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must, just never give up. (Dean Karnazez)

If ever there is a tomorrow when we’re not together… there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. (Winnie The Pooh)

It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default. (JK Rowling)

If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much. (Jim Rohn)

For what it’s worth, it’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not, I hope you find the strength to start over.” (F Scott Fitzgerald)

Any other great ones I missed? Sound off in the comments!

Tome-coat-cutouts

Tome-striped-forever Tome-assymetricTome-pink
Tome-lace

It was my very first opportunity to see the Tome runway show here in NYC, having missed previous seasons due to my flights arriving just too damn late. Aussie boys Ramon Martin and Ryan Lobo have really made their mark on the scene here and this was their strongest collection to date – especially given the raucous applause we heard as the models did their final turn. You can probably see why I’m a fan, these are pieces with volume and character – and there was plenty of sleeves and loose silhouettes, my wardrobe staples.

Bravo to the team at Tome for a wonderful show! Can’t wait to see the girls on the street rocking these looks.

‘Sania, look!! This is THE bag of the moment!!

Fashion week was just a few days away and deliveries were coming our way and so Zanita unpacked this amazing bag by Mark Cross (a brand I had never heard of before to be honest) and told me that this is THE bag of the moment. I totally get it: It looks really luxurious (well it is…), it’s really convenient with lots of space, smooth zippers and with the single handles. There are so many nice colours to choose from!! SO in love with it, if you got to wear it one day, you would be too.. What colour would you like the most? ♥

Quite the experience to have a prime viewing of Joseph Altuzarra’s beautiful SS16 collection…

An aesthetic that grows ever appealing as I endeavour to refine my personal style, Altuzarra dresses a restrained and elegant woman. Last night had me dreaming of  a holiday in Madrid – or even better, shooting an editorial in Madrid with this collection as the inspiration for styling, the coolest girl, strolling across the Plaza Mayor, looking ever so mysterious but scoring plenty the sideways glance in her sleek, burnt orange dress.

10 Lessons From My First Year of Fashion Merchandising

0
0

9143It looks like I’m hitting my anniversary in merchandise planning and boy, did it fly by. The list seems endless as I sit here and reflect on what I’ve accomplished and learnt in the last year, but there are certainly a few lessons to note. The best part is that you can take most of them with you no matter what industry or job you work in. Here are my top 10:

#1 – Absolute Attention to Detail.

This plays into Point #2, but still relevant enough to be on its own. Keep your eyes opened and ears perked at all times because even the smallest things can make a world of difference and also make sure you double-check every number, every detail – everything.

#2 – Learn Your Boss.

Everyone is different so pay attention to what your boss and senior managers like and what they tend to ask you for repeatedly. Then, give it to them without them having to ask you for it. This could be as simple as hole-punching reports before turning them in or running a report by a specific time on a certain day. Figure out what those small things are and do them.

#3 – Relationships Relationships.

This is becoming such a cliché, but I cannot emphasize enough the importance of whom you know in the workplace. It sucks to say, but promotions and movement are mostly political (and maybe even more so in fashion) – this means you need exposure. People need to know who you are, your potential, and your work ethic. Get out there.

#4 – You’re in Control of Your Career.

No one is going to push you forward, but yourself and that really applies to all aspects of life. You won’t be confident all the time especially in the beginning, but you should never take a conservative approach by waiting in silence for your boss or senior to tell you that you’re ready for a new opportunity or promotion. You dictate where you want to be and where you can go – if you’re not sure, you need to ask someone. It is not your manager’s responsibility to determine your next step. You cannot have what you don’t ask for.

#5 – Maximize All Your Resources First.

Don’t be that person who constantly asks, “What do I do next?” or immediately asks, “How do I do this?” Learn to be resourceful and use your peers, the internet, and everything around you to handle a task or project before going back to your boss. (Note: This is not to be confused with direction. If you’re not sure what direction you’re headed in, you need to ask.)

#6 – Be Open-minded and Willing to Learn.

Yes, you are knowledgeable, but your way isn’t the only way nor is it the right way. Be humble, flexible, and adaptable because you can always become more efficient or more effective by observing and learning from those around you.

#7 – Know Your Basic Math.

Numbers are such major deal in merchandising – you’re truly looking at 80% financials (at minimum) and 20% product. If you’re not comfortable working with numbers, this probably isn’t the right place to be. It doesn’t take a math whiz to figure it out because there are definitely formulas, but it’s also not a place for errors.

#8 – Be Willing to Put in The Hours.

There is so much to learn and absorb in fashion merchandising. Although it’s not fun, you will need to put in the hours especially in the beginning when you’re learning and trying to be proficient in your job. You won’t be putting forth 60 hours every week, but do be prepared for super highs and lows.

#9 – Don’t Be a Whiner.

No one likes to be around the pessimist who complains about everything. That’s the kind of attitude that doesn’t get you promoted. Conditions won’t always be ideal so strive to have a “what’s the best way to approach this problem” attitude. This way, you’ll become more tactical and strategic in how you handle any obstacles that come your way.

#10 – 100% All the Time.

You won’t like your job all the time. There will tasks you’ll need to do that seem insignificant, inconvenient, and just flat out senseless. You may even realize that the job is not really for you and you’re just not into the gig anymore. Set those negative emotions aside –

you must always put forth 100% effort and continue to do your best until you’ve moved on.

We’re a good way through NYFW by now and it’s been a thrill-a-minute kind of ride.

In case you missed it, I’m here in New York working with Matches Fashion to share with you all the most beautiful collections the season has to offer. Derek Lam was a highlight for me – beautiful flowing length and details to die for, specifically that elongated cuff which I’m sure is something we’ll be seeing a lot more of – and the conical style heel, something a little newer that I’m loving. Those low heel, laced up booties are my new must have, I can’t express to you all how happy I am that the heel trend has discontinued that exercise in elevation. Just not practical! I’m not comfortable being 6’5 either, I’m too awkward.

So wonderful to see Derek Lam in motion this season, those long proportions are everything.

NYFW And Bloggers From A Bystander

Two of the most amazing things I’ve been able to experience as a contributor here at Zanita.com: 1. Going to New York City during fashion week (even though I didn’t attend any shows) and 2. Participating in the 2015 Bloglovin’ Award Ceremony. And as a fashion enthusiast heavily immersed in the blogosphere (as most of us are), I’ve always wondered what it’d be like to stand in the midst of the fashion week craze even if it meant doing so as a bystander. Just two days ago, there I was, on Varick Street as a spectator and later, submerging myself in the blogger scene at the Bloglovin event. The experience was definitely one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to say the least. And since I was lucky enough to see it and breathe it first hand as an insignificant person in a herd of very fashionable significant individuals, I figured I’d let you in the know.

New York Fashion Week

As vividly as I can recall, the schedules are super tight and crazy…you feel it even if you’re not attending any shows. So while attempting to meet Zanita outside the DVF show, I was a speck away from getting trampled over by the viciously determined street style photographers in the middle of crappy, rainy weather. I was walking towards Spring Studios when a group of what appeared to be warriors with humongous lenses charged towards me – I was starstruck when I finally saw a dainty little thing caper up and down the sidewalk as if on a catwalk and these photographers were in awe, snapping away. I leered in a little closer and it was Chiara Ferragni – she was as delicate in person as she is on her blog. I paused to admire her for a few seconds when the photography crowd suddenly charged in another direction…Eva Chen made strides on the promenade in such an ever-chic and cool way (just like she always is on Instagram). Following her was Kate Upton in a feminine, polished white suit and everyone held their breath as this gorgeous creature floated on by. I turned my head slightly and there was Nicky Hilton right in front of my face not giving any attention to the insignificant people surrounding her. She’s obviously a celebrity and used to it so we can’t blame her. I continued my people watching and out from a crowd, I spotted Joanna Hillman…one of my favorites – effortless and all and just as I had imagined. Then, came a quick burst of energy from the famous Song Sisters (Aimee and Dani) – all smiles and giddy with that super casual, west coast vibe. And finally, I recognized the fluffy, blonde-haired Aussie I came to see, Zanita, who was so approachable and happy. Seeing all these famous characters in real life was really no different than seeing them on their blogs or Instagram…fashion isn’t so superficial after all.

Bloglovin Awards

I have never seen so many immaculately dressed people in my life, granted some of these peoples’ outfits (including shoes and bags) probably cost more than my entire bank account. But anyway, Louise Roe, Alexa Chung, Look de Pernille, Anine Bing, Shini Park, Chriselle Lim, Vanessa Hong, of course Zanita, and so many more – all perfect from head to toe and all so humble. These Bloggers have such meaningful conversations about blogging as a business; they talk strategy, long-term vision, and openly offer up congratulations – they’re just so supportive in ways I wouldn’t have ever imagined and encouraging of one another.

It’s a like a little support network in the same exact way you would back your own friends and family.

And it feels so wonderful to be a part of it (thanks to Zanita & Gustav)!

Bloglovin

And that’s pretty much it, Good Bye New York and Fashion Week – I hope to come back every year, even if I’m just a gaper.

The energy, the vibe…there are really no words to describe it.

P.S. Although we didn’t win, THANK YOU so much to everyone who voted for the Zanita team.

Dion does it again…

Dion Lee 2 Dion Lee 4 Dion Lee 3 Dion Lee Dion Lee 5

Dion Lee SS16, taking laser cutting to new levels, and seamlessly weaving fabrics together in some magical way… a total mystery to me! It must be truly special to own and wear clothing like this, like wearable art or sculpture. I wish I were a better fashion writer so I could really detail the show to it’s deserved justice. Either way, Aussie Dion Lee has done the Down Under fashion scene proud yet again with another innovative outing here at NYFW. It  was a really delight to be invited and the see these pieces in motion – and how COOL is those wire face pieces. I was captivated!

Bravo Dion Lee, it was so wonderful to see the show here in New York for my #MFxZanita Collaboration.

One of the things I find the most inspiring during fashion week is all the very well dressed people.

Streetstyle photage is then a great source for those days when one’s having no clue about what to wear. Zanita has been shooting lots of inspiring and stylish ladies and I thought I’d show you the things you need to steal this gorgeous black outfit.

Outfit recipe: polka dot (or stars, I mean, why not?) + matching scarf and a brooch + black pencil skirt + a bag with details that matches the dots & heeled booties with an open toe.

Viva Africa!

Quietly patting myself on the back right now for keeping up a posting schedule in this crazy week – but I don’t get all the credit. We’ve had the most amazing intern Rebecca who’s been keeping my sanity and of course we have Sania here too, who is loads of fun. I haven’t felt like NYFW has been as overwhelming for me as previous seasons.

The Sophie Theallet show is a great example of why this week has been so wonderful, a energetic show – with an African theme and the most beautiful and diverse range of models I’ve seen all week. Such a fun thing to spot the incredible Candice Huffine in the line-up. A factory rooftop was the location, as the sun was setting – and there was an huge posse of African drummers singing which had everyone on their feet and dancing by the show’s completion. All runway shows should end this way! It really felt like the celebration.

Hope you’ve all enjoyed my coverage of NYFW on behalf of Matches Fashion #MFxZanita
