12 Important Things I've Learnt This Year

I'm currently in Fiji, one of the first places in the world to bring in the New Year. I'm feeling smug because I know for me it's already 2015 - but some of you are still waiting to celebrate!

I've had an unreal year, the best of my life. I've had some highs and lows - but this has been a year of lessons and for that I'm all the richer. If you aren't learning and striving for something new you're certainly doing something wrong. Here's a list of some of the most important lessons I've gained from 2014.

1. Trust in yourself.

If you've got an idea - follow through with it with conviction. This year my own self-belief really took me that extra step further, in all aspects of my life. Believe in yourself and others will too.

2. Hardwork always pays off.

Sometimes it pays off just a little bit and sometimes it pays back big time - often you can't tell which - but you can guarantee if you do things by halves, you'll end up with what you deserve, which will be second best.

3. Sometimes it pays to be selfish.

You can't please everyone, it's totally impossible. Sometimes you just need to pursue the goals and dreams you want in life even if other people in your life don't approve or want something else for you.

4. I need a bigger wardrobe.

Aka I should buy fewer clothes... easier said than done when you're a self professed fashion enthusiast. I guess the answer is quality over quantity.

5. Confidence is worth more than gold and diamonds.

Being part of Fashion Bloggers TV I really felt thrown into the deep end - but sometimes you gotta sink or swim! I really learn alot about myself in this way... within a couple months of filming I felt like I could speak in front of anyone and it's helped me in all areas of my life.

6. You are the summary of the people you spend the most time with.

If you're spending a lot of time with people without drive and ambition then it can rub off on you too. If you're someone leaving school or still pretty young and figuring it out - then you can't be faulted for sticking with the same friends - but later in life, pick and choose the people you spend more time with because attitudes and ideas can work like osmosis.

7. It's ok to be weird.

I actually always knew that it was ok to be weird - but now I think its better to be weird/original and challenge people's ideas about what's really normal than it is to be well... normal!

8. Dare to dream bigger.

Have you ever wondered why some people end up in cubicles and some people become world class athletes and climb everest and become great leaders? It's because those who seek greatness are inhibited by their own ambition. One day I hope to turn my blog into a great business and work with loads of great people. Just gotta dream it up!

9. Uncomfortable shoes are just not worth it.

I don't really wear heels so often anymore... and if i do, they are really good ones... meaning they cost me too much or they have a good block or low heel. Wearing sneakers more often too - which brings me to my next point..

10. Exercise is one of the keys to happiness.

Healthy body/healthy mind. So true! I've dropped off the exercise train completely this past year and the lethargy sucks! Means I get stressed more easily, can't eat whatever I want and worse. One of my news years resolutions is to wear gym gear more often so I get the feeling for being active - and then off course, go to the gym!

11. Research, research, research.

If you working in a field that hasn't exactly demanded a university degree to get you there - doing your own kind of study will put you ahead of the pack. You really have to understand what you're up against - and don't pat yourself on the back until your understand what makes someone the best in your field and how to achieve that.

12. Take the road less travelled.

You can learn a lot about yourself by choosing to be part of a unique and challenging environment. Seek out adventure!

The Luckiest Girls in the World

When the girls from Lucky contacted me about being part of their blogger issue I actually did a double take. At first I thought the email said I going to be part of the Issue and not the cover - which would be Chiara and Nicole - and that made obvious sense.  Then I re-read it about 20 times and it came home to me... I was going to be on the c0ver too! Things became embarrassing. I may have ugly/happy cried/sobbed. I was incredulous! Me?? I'm a fangirl - not a covergirl!

Well, I guess now I'm a covergirl. WOW.

I'm so thrilled to be able to share this with you - the highest peak of my career.

I'm so grateful to the inspirational Eva Chen and all the girls at Lucky Magazine and of course, Conde Naste, for believing in me - and not only me - but other fashion bloggers and entrepreneurs, leading a new generation through the way we use digital media in our industry.

I'm so proud to be sharing this cover with two women I admire and respect so much, both a shining example in my industry. They are so incredibly hardworking and dedicated to their brands - with wonderful talent to boot! I'm always excited to see what's coming next for both of them.

I'm also  humbled to know, it's through the support of you, my readers and followers - that I've been able to receive the recognition and encouragement that has built me to this point.

Though words can't really say it right - Thankyou so much!! xx

You can check a sneak peak of the inside article live on Lucky Magazine NOW.

Ordinary life does not interest me. - Anais Nin

What a magical sunset on Cape Le Grand a week ago, around 22kms of pristine beach and not a soul in sight. You can drive on the squeeky white sand and find a spot all for yourself. I can with a group of my family here to fish on the beach and drink wine and eat cheese. Blissful!!

Meanwhile I'm so happy about  with how my Fashion and Blog Photography Basics Course has been received. The course includes videos tutorials and case studies - and speaks the kind of language you're going to find right here on my blog. The course also grants you access to a closed Facebook group administered by me where we can discuss all things photography.

Making The Case for Vintage

Vintage clothing is really special. You can find designer quality at a fraction of the price, plus you're likely to be buying something that's almost one of a kind. Therefore - my absolute favourite pieces in my burgeoning wardrobe are the vintage, pre-loved, recycled pieces. My treasures with a story - and only for me. Even more precious than fine designer pieces! Well I guess that's a point of view - but a nice one to have if you're a girl on a budget.

I found this jumpsuit in a vintage store in Amsterdam last year (wearing it HERE) - they really have some great stores in that town! I feel like older cities like those in Europe have a great stash of Vintage in their stores because they simply have more history in their populations. Aussie vintage stores seem to have loads of stock from the 80's and that's almost it... of course this jumpsuit is certainly a fine 80's/90's remnant so I'm not complaining of that era, it's just exciting to see some 70's denim or some 50's/60's sun dresses pop up once in awhile.

The pics were snapped in Fiji! I visited for just 3 short days over New Year and tried to maximise my time by enjoy as much pool time, seafood and cocktails as possible. A highlight was a jet-ski safari where we visited 5 different islands on those water beasties. The thing about jet-ski's is, they are so much fun while you're on them but a total pain in the ass for anyone else around. I always have some post jet-ski hooliganism guilt after riding one.

I'm back in Sydney now! And headed back to Stockholm on tuesday for a couple more weeks. That means back to the real work...

The Reason to Set Goals

The Reason to Set Goals

When I was in my early 20's I never really believed in setting goals - life was pretty good to me! I was just letting it all happen. I began modelling and let my agents make the decisions for me. I had my blog as a hobby on the side, my creative outlet - and I was pretty happy just plugging away. Then one day I started to feel my life was out of my control. It's something I find a little hard to describe  but somehow I began to feel dissatisfied will my little lot. I guess it's because I realised it wasn't clear where my future was headed and I didn't find much purpose in what I was doing.

I think one of the reasons I didn't set goals is because in the past, I'd half heartedly set a goal and then failed... for example, I'd set out on a 'dry July' quest and end up drinking a bottle of wine that very first weekend - or I'd vow to go to the gym 4 times a week and then visit not once - I'd aim to post every day and then post twice in a month. If I wasn't setting  any goals then I wouldn't set myself up for failure! Problem solved!

Now I have bigger ambitions and I want to succeed. While I've had some wonderful successes in my career  so far - I know for a fine fact I could have furthered myself even more with better focus and more drive. I've still got loads to learn... really loads. I'm a terrible procrastinator and I have bitten off perhaps more than I can chew... I'm also

Outfit-1e

maybe guilty of looking at my very large workloads and deciding that I absolutely, desperately need a nap! Haha!

So right now you can perhaps see - I have some potential in my hands and the time to set some real goals in now. The key is to find the balance between realism and ambition. To write them down and work perpetually towards achieving them. My aim is to make 2015 a year of self improvement - we can all give a little more and in that, become happier with our little lot in life. I've spent time in my life feeling depressed - along with most people I know. I don't ever want to feel that way again so I'm searching for the tools to make my life as amazing as it can potentially be.

Looking forward to sharing more on this  in posts to come!

You Can't Eat Shoes

But they are so satisfying to consume, none the less!

I feel like the appeal lies in that shoes are a bit more risk free as opposed to a designer dress - because women come in diverse shapes and sizes - chances are it's not going to sit on you like it would on Anja Rubik. Feet don't vary in such an exaggerated way!

Here's a selection I'm craving right now.

Malone Souliers rose pink and tan point toe sandals

Gianvito Rossi metallic and perspex heel sandals

LAMB blue suede sandals

Alaia gold metallic sandals

Rupert Sanderson for Antonio Berardi rose gold metallic sandals

If someone told me last year that I would be photographed alongside two of the world's biggest fashion bloggers and be among the first of our kind to ever appear on the cover of a major American fashion magazine, I would have choked on my cornflakes. Yet that possibility has eventuated - and I'm extremely proud to share these images, which feature inside the issue.

This represents kicking off a really big year for me, with even more travel, more work and big plans.

3 Modelling Tips to Improve Your Blogger Game

Outfit-84bA
Outfit-81ba

I've been a major poser for a damn long time - especially for someone with a short attention span - sticking to one habit/hobby/job over ten years in pretty impressive if I do say so myself. The key to being a good model in knowing your body type and being confident. I've got three tips here to help you - even though there's a whole load more to learn.

1. Walk. Learn to walk on the spot and make it look like you're really in stride. In this first image provided I'm really just taking one step forward then two back and repeating. The key is to just that very first step right - and the reason you need to master doing it on the spot is to make life much easier for your photographer. It's not the simplest thing to get a moving target in frame and in focus. Why walking? Well moving in stride, limbs in extension is always flattering and you can achieve a natural look pose pretty effortlessly once you master it. Check out Karla's Closet, this girl is really a master of the 'flattering stride'.

2. The Arm. Pull your shoulders back gently and lift the top of your arm ever so slightly away from the side of your body - this elongates the arm and slenders the shoulder. Basically look to lift your arm at the pit... sounds a bit strange to say haha! This trick doesn't work super well when facing square to the camera but it's a great cheat in any other position. You should have a little tension in your upper back and neck so you don't look slovenly but should also find the balance between this and looking relaxed. Practise in the mirror - it's pretty simple!

3. Movement. One of my pet peeves is seeing girls model in photos looking stiff and awkward. They have the principle of a classic pose all down but freeze in a position and suddenly the effect is very awkward. One strategy to modelling well is moving constantly. When ever I've modelled for catalogues, every time the photographer snaps a pic - I move into a new position. Unless you have a barrage of poses in your repertoire, it's not easy to keep moving this way so I'd recommend moving in a kind of 'dancing' way. Again - practise doing this in the mirror and it'll make more sense. I always 'move into' a pose, it's how I keep the how thing looking natural. I've included an amazing video of Coca Rocha showing how much a professional model will move during a photoshoot (it's very impressive!) - obviously you don't need to attempt this! This much continuous movement takes a lot of co-ordination and confidence.

One of the most awkward things about being a fashion blogger is posing on the street in front of all the passersby. I've the fortune of a long modelling career - I've had to pose for a magazine in front of Big Ben in London, with a huge circle of around 50 tourists standing around me taking photos and laughing. There's no time to be self conscious when you have to get the job done! So you just do it - and I've applied this philosophy when it comes to taking my blog pictures as well. I want my pictures to be great! Which calls for having no shame - e.g., this post took around 50 jumps in a very public place...

I hope I've been helpful in this regard! I really should do a video about modelling...

Well actually I do have one video inside my Fashion Blog and Photography Course! And loads more. If you really want to master your skills then I'm here to help. ;)

One of my outfits that'll no doubt divide opinions - and probably the reason why I love this look ever the more! I'll always have more fun when I'm challenging peoples ideas about style and being creative with clothes. Dressing can be like scrabble, the way you arrange the pieces to make the most unique combination (within parameters of logical sense/spelling) the more points you get... haha!

This GStar jumpsuit I've had for years and never really featured it properly on my blog - despite it being one of the most worn pieces in my wardrobe! It's so cosy. I love wearing it with sneakers. Ol' faithful.

I'm back in Stockholm right now and it's pretty challenging shooting outfit posts here  - you really only have a two hour window of decent light in the winter and when I snapped this look... it was probably a bit too dark. Means I need to bump the ISO way up and I hate doing that - the images will be slightly grainy. Irritates me beyond belief!

Music You Want to Listen To

Really just a list of songs that I've got on repeat right now -  moody tracks - good to listen to while working. Whenever I'm editing or doing random shit at home, I can't stand having no music on. Spotify playlists have been revolutionary for me, I love finding new music in this way. Whenever I'm listening to something new and the beat catches me, I run right to my computer and add it to my playlist. Finding new music you love is all about instinct!

7 Parts of Your Life That Can Be Improved and How To Do It

7 Parts of Your Life That Can Be Improved and How To Do It

As you can probably tell lately I'm all on the self improvement bandwagon - and I'm here to spread the word. I love writing on my blog not only for you all to read and give me your thoughts and feedback but as a kind of diary for myself... A diary that happens to be read by thousands and thousands of people... haha!

So I discovered this  list of areas whereby it's helpful to have goals and direction for improvement. We all can make little changes to better ourselves, and in turn, better the lives of people around us. I'm not trying to tell you that 'you're shit and you need to be as good as me' - I'm the first to admit I'm not even close to getting it all right. I'm erratic and disorganised, I'm clumsy, I lack consistency, I don't call my folks as often as I should, I spend way too much on taxis.... I could go on - but it's not really about punishing yourself - it's about driving for improvement! And writing down your goals. Pen to paper!!!

So the areas I speak of....

1. Family

As you all know, I travel alot so I'm terrible at keeping good contact with my family - and in turn they also aren't the greatest, but we love each other loads and don't hold grudges so all ends well. The question is - how can I be there more for my family, not only with my time but emotionally? The answer to the question is the goal in point. Find a method, write it down and do you best to stick to it. It could be by writing regular emails or vowing to make a call every sunday. It could be about asking the right questions and being a better listener. Whatever works for you.

2. Career

This is a big one for me. In the past I haven't placed much value on my career because I t0ld myself I couldn't succeed. The moment you believe a truth like that - it becomes the reality. I was my own worst enemy! Thankfully, with ALOT of encouragement - I've turned it all around. The question I'm asking is - how can I move myself forward to my ideal career? Write down the answer, it might take some figuring out  but the key is, THINK BIG. Don't limit yourself by your own too-low standards. We're all capable of big things.

3. Financial

Urgh, I can't help but groan as I write this one... I HATE dealing with my finances. I like to think 'i'm bad' at keeping on top of it but really, I'm just a serial avoider. The answer is, those things you hate doing the most are probably the things that need the most attention. So now my finances are Priority Number One. Ok. Number Two... Well they are up there. The question you need to ask yourself to create a goal in this department - What do I want to save money for? Is my financial goal to increase my finance or to save to something special? Then write it down along with a method to get there. Make it realistic and work to chip away everyday.

4. Spiritual

This is an area where I'm guilty of giving zero attention - I'm not really speaking of religion (a topic I'd would like to politely avoid on this blog) but  about being more zen, and what it takes to achieve a better piece of mind. You own kind of meditation. As a self professed social media junkie (occupational hazard) I could say that I typical have a pretty manic state of mine. The question to ask yourself here is - What do I need to do to create a better piece of mind in my life?  For me it's going to take a bit of trial and error over methods, but some of you might know already. Send tips! ;)

5. Social

Hooray a fun one! Spending time with other will give you inspiration, help you learn new things and give you fulfilling way to enjoy yourself. A big part of this department for me, not only how I socialise - but with who! It's not about ditching your old friends - but giving extra time to those friendships that inspire you. The question? How can I capitalise on my social life to improve my happiness? It could be about being more giving or spending more time combining socialising with activity. You need to define what you need from your social life and aim to improve with that knowledge in mind.

6. Physical

This one is pretty obvious. The benefits of maintaining a healthy body are limitless - who doesn't want more energy and less stress? Everyone has their own way of exercising but the hard part is finding something that's inspiring enough that you want to continue doing it for the rest of your life! My work leads me to sit at a desk all day so pilates has become important - to stave away back pain and posture problems. What's the best way to maintain a regime that's inspiring and improves my health? Find a goal that's easy to stick to. This one is really important! If you exercise regularly, other areas of your life are somehow easier to manage too.

7. Intellectual

Challenge your mind by reading - and I'm not talking about buzzfeed articles! It's important to exercise your mind and prime your ability to focus. Reading is a great way to learn - along with taking classes. One of my goals this year is to read more books and also learn a language (svenska!). The question, how can I improve my intellect this year? It could be as simple as reading a few articles in National Geographic. We should all be challenging our minds a little more - it's easy to get lazy on this point - and well worth putting in the time to savour your brain power.

So as I mentioned - having a goal in each of these areas can give you holistic target for self improvement. Sounds cheesy but we can all benefit from a little added direction in our lives. I'm still figuring things out - but with renewed ambition and some clearly defined goals I'm freshly inspired by my trajectory. Good times!!!

Checking In: Life Update

So I thought it might be a good idea to start a series whereby I check in with what's happening in my life right now. Mostly because in the way that my combined social media and blog folds out, it's not really clear what my day to day life is like.

I'm in Stockholm right now - and I live between Sweden and Australia. I have a working holiday visa here so I can stay for quite awhile - plus now I have a boyfriend here, Gustav. It was always one of my life goals to come and live in Europe - so I made it happen! I live between the countries for work reasons.

I have an office to work from in Stockholm and my day to day life  is really about sitting at my desk and working on a whole load of projects. One of those being - the Photoshop course! Which is coming very soon... in two weeks to be precise, so be patient!

Creating content can be very time consuming and it's just little ol' me doing it for this blog so I do have to work a bit of overtime - but thats very rewarding when you are your own boss. This week I'm hoping to do some shoots with some Swedish bloggers... but they never seem to reply to my emails! I find that with a lot of fashion bloggers - mostly because they all have inboxes that are completely loaded with emails! Myself included... I can be hard to reach sometimes.

I'm here in Sweden until Jan 26th - where I fly back to Sydney for another two weeks. The travel is part of the adventure but I have to admit, it does become a little tiresome. It's not so bad if you're just travelling within the Northern Hemisphere but having to adjust to alternate climates and timezones so regularly really weighs on you. One of the reasons I've had to recommit to going to the gym more regularly is so I can cope with the adjustments better. Sometimes it knocks me around for 4/5 days.

Following my trip to Australia I'm back in Sweden for just a few days then off to NYFW - which I think will be a real adventure because of the Lucky Cover.  I'm excited to arrange some meetings with American brands and plan out some exciting projects for the remainder of the year.

Sometime extremely exciting I'm involved in right now - a total overhaul and redesign of my blog. It's going to be very different, I'm hoping to work more with contributors and with youtube. Damn it's so expensive to create a good website... I'm sure it's all going to be worth it. Counting down.

Looking forward to sharing it all with you!

Video: Talking Fashion with Chiara, Nicole and Lucky Magazine

Just sharing this little video we shot in Paris post our feature for Lucky Magazine. I still can't believe this is happened. Even the whole time I knew it was going ahead - I refused to allow myself to celebrate too much because I thought the magazine might change their minds about me. It's a technique I devised for handling disappointment during my modelling career - I'd never let myself think a job was secure until I was there and we were shooting it. I'd clearly been cancelled plenty of times!

Anyway - I hope you like this video, me blabbing on beside the ever composed and gorgeous Chiara and Nicole.

I've been friends with Rebecca for creeping on two years - and in that time I've watch her grow to become one of the best fashion bloggers in Holland (I'd like to say Europe!) and rack up an incredible body of work. It's pretty easy to see from these gorgeous images why brands like Vogue are knocking on her door!  Her style has a load of elements typical of the scandi' clique but with her own unique touch, more relaxed, often deconstructed, playing with textures - dare I say - has a more urban vibe? I always have trouble really nailing a good description of someone's aesthetic.

Anyway, her blog is one of my favourites! And I'm delighted to say it's not only because we are such great friends. I've harassed to her to complete my questionnaire. Hope you enjoy getting to know Rebecca a little better!

favourite holiday destination…. New York! I've been obsessed with the city for ages, can't enough.

I’m most comfortable when…. When I'm on a beach or near a pool with my boyfriend right beside and a cocktail in my hand.

minimal or maximal… Minimal in styling, maximal in potential.

monotone or color…. Monotone, my wardrobe consists of primary black and white with the occasional navy and grey.

all I want for christmas is… Another trip abroad, I caught the traveling bug big time and I'm not planning on curing myself from "this" anytime soon.

drink of choice… An espresso in the mornings, orange juice in the afternoon, wine in the evening, cocktail in the night.

dream dinner guest… Kim Kardashian (she can bring Kanye). So wrong that it's right.

if you had three wishes… Super corny but: love, peace and happiness (plus health obviously).

favourite flower… White roses.

signature dance move… I'm amazing at the Macarena.

secret talent… My mom says baking but I sort of lost track of my kitchen super powers due to laziness.

guilty pleasure… Reality TV, any really. Obsessed with anything tacky and over the top.

most proud of… What I've achieved so far, deciding to choose a different path and making a success out of that.

ideal date… Probably includes a beautiful view, nice company, loads of food and wine.

favourite designer… Alexander Wang.

favourite item… My iPhone, couldn't live without it.

a great night out is…. Is when I'm that much in the zone nothing else really matters, dancing and enjoying life. Preferably the dinner-drinks-club-afterparty at home combo.

who would play you in a film… Blake Lively, just because she has amazing hair and I'd love to have that for a second even if it's just in a movie.

best dish to cook… Truffle mushroom risotto.

can’t stop listening to… Goldfish - Moonwalk Away

creativity is… Not having boundaries.

end goal… Is being able to do what I love and love what I do until I don't want it anymore.
