Don't Miss A Moment

My test with the stunning Emily Green at IMG models. I first spotted Emily in the flesh backstage at MBFWA - and I knew I had to shoot with her, those brows, that gaze. She's one of a kind.

Pics, editing and styling - me. Special thanks to my talented assistant Gervin Puse for helping me with a rather cumbersome lens!

When I first eyed these pants and top in the Essentiel lookbook - I knew it was a tick off my list of 'what to wear at fashion week'. I love comfortable dressing - and these trousers are so cosy I feel like I could probably have a sleep in them. It's been so long now I can't really remember what day I wore this... maybe day 3? Meh, not really relevant... but my bag! Its my new favourite item - I picked it up my MyWardrobe - and its by a newer London designer called Kzeniya. As far as fancy designer handbags go it's definitely in the lower echelon of prices - but the quality is great and I've had so many comments since. You can see a close up of it in my last streetstyle post - worn by someone else. I actually really like it when you spot someone wearing the same thing as you - its cute! I particularly love when two people have matching or complimentary outfits in streetstyle. Margs and I got snapped by Tommy Ton on this day for style.com - see the pics here on Studded Hearts - it's so cute the way our patterns compliment each other. Totally unplanned I assure you!

Nineties Fever

Presenting a collaboration with my gorgeous friend, Nicole Warne of Gary Pepper - an editorial shoot featuring vintage 90's garments styled up by Nicole herself, taken from the Neo-Nineties exhibition now showing at Westfield Miranda . The exhibition features pieces curated by Charlotte Smith, the owner of the Darnell Collection - the largest private collection of vintage pieces in Oz, numbering up to 8,000. I even heard a rumour that the sunflower dress pictured was once worn by Naomi Campbell.... maybe or maybe not true but it surely does looks like something she would have rocked during her heyday.

Thanks so much to Westfield for enlisting us to take part in the project - allowing us free reign on this stunning collection to create this fun editorial.  The exhibition closes after the the 28th of this month - so if you wanna see the whole range, head to Westfield Miranda and check out Neo-Nineties for yourself.

I'm not usually one for heels. I'm just under six foot tall - so my prefered choice of daily footwear attire is the common plimsole or sandal. Something simple and classic. Lately however - it seems people are really into bloggers here in Oz - and I'm getting invited to loads of lovely events and to feel like a really classy lady, heels are a must. I'd love to say I'm comfortable wearing flats to events... but there's something about it thats makes me feel so dowdy. Like I'm just schleped out of the office and into the scene... anyway. I also hate spending money on heels because I damage them so badly with my clumsy wine drinking antics... and when they are damaged you can't resell on ebay! ... who am I kidding.... I sell nothing on ebay.

These Costume National puppies are just my flavour. I refuse to wear anything without a block heel for comfort reasons and look at that strap! Surely we're rocking some support here. Party shoes!!

There's a few things it takes in the fashion photography business to get to the top of your trade - obviously the number one requirement is simply the skills and the eye to take beautiful pictures... but there's a load of factors that simply have to fall together to make an editorial or campaign truly great. Of course the factor I'm about to mention is - the model. A great model can take a shoot from being average to amazing - and the most amazing models are not really that easy to get a hold of - unless you're already well established and known as a photographer. Once you're big enough to get the best stylists, make-up artists, models and the most incredible locations - you're on the path to being very successful!

I've had the fortunate pleasure in my career of working both in front and behind the lens. I know models and modelling well - and the value of a 'model muse'. I've been lucky to shoot a few girls in my career who I'd deem 'Model Muses' - those being Laura Gorun, Bambi Northwood-Blyth, Anya Konstantinova and Rachel Grasso.... Now - I can add Jessica Hart to the list. Who is by the way... A supermodel!!! When I found out I was going to get the chance to shoot her I did have a quiet little freak out. How on earth was I going to capitalise on this great opportunity!? I had one hour to shoot Jess, her own clothes, streetstyle. The location, George st in Sydney - one of the busiest places in town!  So I hired an enormous and very expensive lens, planned the light and got to snapping. I'm so happy with the result! I feel I've reached an awesome milestone - shoot a supermodel. So grateful to Portmans who arranged for me to have this time to shoot Jess - who by the way is the absolute sweetest person and total bombshell in the flesh. Jess is in town as part of her role as Portmans new 'Girl on Top'. So deserving!

Ahhh! What a horrible anti-climax to be posting this after my pics of Jessica Hart are up. Why can't I be shooting supermodels for every blog post? Surely that's not so much to ask!!

Due to some damn error this is the third time I've had to write up this post... So frustrating I could throw my laptop at the wall. Can't be bothered writing it all again so we're rocking the shorthand version.

Mandy and I hung out in LA for the day. It was fun. I didn't wear anything really fancy, dressed like a boy - but loved this afternoon light so we scored these pics and now I'm posting them.

Definitely not enough Jessica Hart in this blog post!

Dancing in an alleyway, an obvious cliche for any fashion blogger but hey, if you're feeling that inaudible beat, why not rock out? Caught in a moment of cloudiness - and now I'm going to be so interesting and mention the weather here in Sydney and say holy heck, hasn't it been amazing? I'm floored at how perfect the days have been - almost a little sad to be departing in three short weeks... I stress the almost - BRING ON BARCELONA! Can't wait to visit this city - had the good fortune to visit Majorca a couple times in my modelling day - but you can't really get that Spanish vibe in the really touristic places. Too many drunk British and German backpackers! Here's a blog post I did all the way back in 2008 - with my cheap point and shoot camera - talking about modelling and travelling in Spain.

Looking forward to sharing more very soon!

Tiany-Beauty-1

Presenting another collaboration with my gorgeous friend, Tiany - who is a TV host, runs her own online magazine and blog - all while being a mum of two gorgeous little 'mini-me's'. I first met Tiany last year at the Luisa Via Roma event that I attended  and since have had the chance to not only hang out in her hood in Antwerp but also in NYC! So cool to have the chance to meet friends in cities all over the world - fashion blogging has really opened this up to me, won't take a moment for granted.

This shoot took place in my gorgeous room at Hotel O Kathedral in Antwerp. The dark walls provided the perfect moody ambience to inspire our editorial. Thanks so much to Luna for providing the hair and make-up for this shoot and to Tiany for being such a great beauty, friend and fashion conspirator. Hope I get to catch her again when I travel back to Europe in three weeks!

Presenting my imagery from the Maticevski show at MBFWA... easily my favourite show I saw during the week. I'm always been a fan of Toni Maticevski - ever since I had the chance to walk in his show back in '05 -  knowing he's not only wildly talented but the kindest and most generous designer I've ever come across. Needless to say his show this year was phenomenal, the construction and the choice of fabric so unexpected (neoprene!!)  - yet working so well on the whole. His classic and elegant appeal with a totally original look. Congratulations Toni! Doing the Aussie fashion scene proud. You can see the whole show here.

Btw - tomorrow I have a huge opportunity coming for one of my instagram followers... may or may not be an overseas trip! Follow me @zanitazanita to find out what it's all about....

Presenting the final outfit to complete my MBFWA outfit series - and left feeling pretty casual in the later part of the week - I chose to wear my favourite denim, comfortable heels and a loose fitting jacket tropical print jacket from Stylestalker. The baroque shades were fun - a loan from Margs - who scored them from the most talented designer behind Moo Eyewear.

I know its so late to be posting this outfit, so delay from the instance of actual wearing but I'm really in the habit of posting daily lately and putting all my outfits in a row kinda bores me. I still have some a few shows left to edit, including Romance Was Born, Alex Perry and Flannel so stick around for that.

In other news - I have an extremely exciting opportunity for one of my readers to come to BARCELONA IN SPAIN with me for Mango Fashion Summer here.... But you need to check out my instagram for details here.... IT COULD BE YOU! So please enter!

Really enjoying getting into dress jewellery lately - I'm usually the sort to wear only classic pieces, I've been wearing the same vintage dragon claw pinkie ring for almost 5-6 years now and I'm so amazed I've never lost it, its really grown to be part of me. Anyway - I learning to diversify and discovering that the right accessories can really pull a whole look together. These flamingo earrings were initially not an obvious choice for myself but I really think they are so fun and provide a cool contrast to my pair back yet tropical themed look. Thus I'm very excited to present the first in series as part of a collaboration with Swarovski and I'm looking forward to the challenge of working these fun accessories into my personal aesthetic.

Thanks so much to Sara for helping me snap these pics after a sweet afternoon of white wine and fashion banter - I remember years ago meeting Sara, talking excitedly about our love of fashion and dream to own designer pieces and work with brands - much has changed for us professionally - but Sara still has a gorgeous and generous personality as always. Can't wait to see what the future has in store for her!!

In the last 12 months I've spent alot of time living out of a suitcase... alot. Meaning most of the time my trustie Samsonite has been my closest companion. Thus - I've newly resolved to invest in more classic pieces...  maybe more neutral pieces, like black, white and tan. You can't fill a suitcase with random colours and patterns because you can't mix and match everything. Hooray for my new black trench by Ruby See's All! It's made from Tencil - do you remember back in the 90's when you could buy wide leg Tencil jeans in all these crazy colours? My mum had a fluoro yellow pair. Fun times.

I must admit - I did kind of forget that I had these images in the bank. A personal project with co-conspirator, the incredibly talented Sina Velke, our little team traipsed around Hollywood to pay homage to the world's most famous blonde. Got a few strange looks as a posed up a storm on Hollywood boulevard - even had a few tourists start taking snaps of me. There's no room to be self conscious in these circumstances though! Getting the shot is more important to me than looking like complete weirdo rolling around on the pavement (and yes I was wearing sneakers with that purple dress).

Getting so excited for Barcelona with Mango next week - and doubly so because I've had the chance to select one of my instagram followers to join me. I've never been to Barcelona but I know it's an incredibly photogenic city so really looking forward to putting up some colourful content in the coming weeks. I'll be spending a whole load of time with my girl Nicole Warne so hopefully we can produce some exciting collaborative efforts... and looking like I'll be headed to Paris for really the first time - I had a chance to go around 10 years ago with my parents and saw virtually nothing other than Disneyland. Also hoping to get to Antwerp (again) and Amsterdam (again) and Stockholm (again). Wild cards are Berlin and London and Hamburg. I have almost a couple weeks free in the middle of itinerary so I'm even considering contacting my old agency there and seeing if they'll have me in town to do some castings and maybe model in a few catalogues. I'm often asked why I don't model anymore and the answer is pretty simple, I love modelling - but its really a career that doesn't lead very far and once you've been doing it for awhile - the only real challenges you face are jetlag and gym session related. I'm a commercial model so the money is better but you certainly don't work with often with high fashion clients - which is really my dream. Being a 'blogographer' has allowed me to delve further into the side of the industry I'm really passionate about. That being said - a trip to Hamburg to cast and model would mean some fun alternative content for my blog and could make a cool story for you all right? I'd try and make a diary of the kinds of things I get up to - just trying to keep it interesting.

Other than that I've got some of the most (i think) exciting content still to come - this Mango event is going to be amazing! Lucky me! And lucky one of my IG followers!! :)

Special thanks to videographer Maria Gibert for allowing me to boss her around to take these photos, so appreciated.

Little interview I did for exciting new Aussie magazine - Collective. I sure you can imagine - it feels so lovely to read such generous words about myself but also a bit awkward! Is that really me!? Haha! I've been telling people lately that I've been blogging for 4 years but it's actually closer to 5... and what a journey, full of little milestones and then bigger milestones. Personally I think this year has been the most exciting for me to date - so glad I could share it with you, dear reader - because without you I really wouldn't have anything at all. Eternally grateful.

So excited to present another blogger collaboration editorial - and one of my favourites to date, starring mega babe Martine (check her blog HERE) in this retro inspired photoshoot at iconic Venice Beach, California. Had a major debacle this day shoot which almost made me lose my mind - I purchased a new battery for my camera but was sold the wrong size by Samy's Camera house. It meant I was stuck using a camera which was about to lose battery at any minute. Normal I'll snap thousands and thousands of images for any given photoshoot - but for this shoot - I only snapped 400! Setting up the shot, framing it all while my camera was off, getting the images in really limited number of frames, moving onto the next shot stat. Luckily Martine is a real pro! And the perfect embodiment of our muse, Kelly Kapowksi. Take me back to that Cali afternoon light! So perfect - and the location I could have shot in for a week, so many perfect spots to shoot.

The Alex Perry girl has really evolved - she's sexy and fresh! Alex's show was one of his most exciting of late - loaded with chic little dresses that could really work into the party girl's aesthetic. Suddenly you don't need to be a regular gala attendee to be a Perry devotee!  Those boots though... Tony Bianco! And you can buy your very own right HERE. A little late  to the party - but lately I've been really rocking the clashing prints on a pretty regular basis. Feeling a little bit of a style evolution of late, been inspired by a bit of glamour and upmarket chic. Perhaps you'll see me in more dresses soon! Though one thing you'll never see me in.... Singlets. For some reason I just don't feel right without my shoulders covered... Guess we all have up hang ups - and mine likely extends from my having problem skin when I was younger. Either way, sleeves will always been a friend of mine.  Bit weird, c'est la vie.

I've really been trying to hard to blog every day lately but I've slipped a little this week - trying to catch up on preparations for a big trip to Europe and working numerous shoots over the week including one with a major babe who I don't want to mention because I don't want to jinx myself but.... ahhh wish I could spill! Anyways - follow me on instagram in the next couple days for updates. x

Contradicting myself - I bang on about how I feel a style evolution coming on and here I am, sporty dressing once again. You can't teach an old dog new tricks! But then again I guess I gotta milk this sport trend till it really dies otherwise half the pieces in my wardrobe will be a little redundant hey? The thing I love most about this sport trend is you can wear a) tracksuit pants in public and look cool and b) sneakers with jeans... who would have thought? These earrings by Luv Aj are possibly my new favourite jewellery. Blue metal baby!

3 days till I leave now for Europe and finally solidifying my plans, looking like Spain - France - Belgium - Holland and then maybe Sweden or Germany. Its getting fresh here in Aussie land so looking forward to checking out the Spanish summer weather.... and the content!!! Can't wait to share my travels again. Lots of work and good times ahead.

Turn and Bag It

Whats genuinely in my handbag today - I like to always have make-up with me these days because when I wake in the morning I'm usually running out the door fresh faced... It's nice to throw on a bit of mascara and lip stain to give a bit of confidence. Went to a meeting this morning without it and all the girls were commenting on how tired I looked. Great. I slept like a baby. PASS THE TOUCHE ECLAT! On occasion I'll even throw a pair of underwear and toothbrush in so I'm always prepared for a sleepover at a friends place. This photo is also obviously missing assorted receipts, gum wrappers and tampons - because who really wants to see real life huh? I'm scruffy and disorganised at best. My wallet is the same for perhaps two years now, a cheap little elephant themed number that I perhaps paid 5 dollars for - because I have a superstitious theory that if I own an expensive wallet I'm going to lose it. So far so good! (and new record for me). Also not pictured is my mophie juice pack iphone case that is beaten to shit. Really its awful.
