Zanita for Eluxe, The Jewellery Collection

Eluxe-4

I'm so excited to finally share the results of my labour of love, a collection I designed with Canadian digital retailer - Eluxe. When they first approached me I was thrilled because it opened up a whole world of ideas, anything is possible! Then again, maybe not - because I really want to design pieces that people like. I began by searching the web and finding pieces I liked, then taking elements and using them to come up with my own designs. Some are obviously so simple that total originality is near impossible - but I've done my best to design pieces that I want to wear.

The campaign I shot the day I flew out to Europe about a month ago - a self portrait endeavour, something I haven't done in quite awhile because frankly, it's pretty frustrating not being able to guarantee perfect focus and framing. So often I'll fang out 50 shots and realise a setting isn't quite right or my hair just looks totally bung. I'm happy with the result! I was looking for a 90's feeling.

My favourite piece is the Jessica Ear Cuff (I named all the pieces after some of my blogger friends) and I would love to know which pieces you like! I'm a little nervous to see how they are received.

All of the pieces here are available now for Pre-Order with a 10 percent discount if you buy two pieces - CODE: ZANITA

5 Photo Tips to try this Weekend

5 Photo Tips to try this Weekend

Hey All, here's a few of my tips to take on next time you head out to take pictures. This advice really stems from some mistakes I see photographers make, things that could be helped with a little more focus and consideration. I've also tried to go with hints that are slightly less obvious!  Here goes...

1. Shoot in RAW. Plenty of people I've met complain that shooting in RAW takes up too much space - well, get more space! The flexibility that shooting in RAW will give you when it comes to the editing process is infinitely better than when trying to edit JPEGS.  You goal should be to develop a finer eye and this is the first step.

2. Focus. I know it sounds obvious - but you should apply sincere focus when taking you're pictures. There's nothing worse than throwing your memory card back into your computer when you get home and finding that your images are slighting out of focus or slighting over exposed. Don't get caught up in the moment - there are alot of variables involved in taking a great picture and you need to have a handle on all of them.

3.  Understand Depth. You can shoot in any kind of location provide you understand the way to utilise depth in a photograph - meaning the way the focus leads of into a blur in the distance. That in itself has a particular kind of beauty and you can find it on any street long enough - so use it!

4. Photoshop - don't go to crazy! Especially if you're photoshopping yourself - chances are those things you think are flaws are some of the most unique and appealing things about you.

5. Try out backlighting - so many photographers favour direct lighting and it confuses me so much because I think direct sun looks so flat! It'll take a bit of practising to figure out the settings - but you can make backlighting look so incredible - especially with a bit of balancing in the editing process (aka, shooting in RAW).

If you'd like more tips from me - I'm releasing a photo course in a few days... so stay tuned!

All photos by me - except the first shot, which was taken by the talented guys behind Cup of Couple

What Every Girl Needs: The Boyfriend Coat

Outfit-100e

I've had this boyfriend style coat from Country Road for probably around 5-6 years - it's served me well. The style is one of those great pieces that you can throw on and make anything look that little bit more dressy. It's great to give this coat a bit of a work out, during the time I've owned it in Australia - it's only been usable a few weeks of the year, it's just too warm!

Coat aside, this is a pretty casual and classic outfit - most from pieces I've had for awhile and something I've just thrown on to shoot some video for my course - instructions about lighting and locations. I'm racing to finish it this week so don't have so much work while I'm visiting my friends and family.

Something else I'm trying to work on right now, my youtube channel. Working with video (and of course, Fashion Bloggers TV show) and reinvigorated me to the world of blogging and I'm excited to share my new found voice with the youtube audience. I'm throwing up new videos all the time! And working on a more professional production... really starting from scratch. Would love your continued input on what kind of videos you're looking for to. It's pretty tricky to work out new and interesting ideas.

It's that time of year again - December! And a time to reflect on the year past. I was quite fortunate this year to spend a good chunk of it in warmer climes... though I will say, I don't really believe that summer dressing is my forte... or maybe, I prefer to layer up! I'm trying to consider these images in summary of what my style really is and I can't say I see any kind of thread of consistancy. Maybe just not alot of black and always sleeves. I don't like to to pen myself in!

If you've enjoyed seeing my 2014 Summer looks on my blog a fraction of the amount I enjoyed making them - then I'm feeling like a winner.

Thanks so much, as always!

xx

Well isn't this fun? Happy Holiday's everyone!

One of the reasons I'm so fond of this holiday sweater is because it makes me nostalgic - attempting to be a fashionista aside - isn't it great to wear clothes that make us smile? I'll forever love a look that feels colourful and cute - and it's always worth it when you catch someone smile at you on the street for looking so cheerful.

Christmas in Sweden is so lovely! I feel like I speak about it a lot, but there's a very traditional feeling about the season. We have some traditions in Australia but as a young nation, still building an identity, I think what people do on Christmas tends to evolve. Of course I'm not speaking of the family time - that's pretty universal! But I mean the kinds of foods and traditions related to gifts. Down Under it's pretty common for people to eat outside and have bbq seafood alongside baked ham and turkey, in Sweden - there's loads of seafood dishes but they also serve meatballs! Plus a load of things I can't pronounce the name of, food suited for cold weather.

I have a very large extended family so we don't give each other gifts - in my immediate family (grandparents, parents, siblings, boyfriends) when are just doing a secret santa! So the budget you have for all you presents, just gets allocated to one person. It's great because it means you just get one really lovely gift! Something else that's fun - in Australia we open presents in the morning when we wake, whereas here in Sweden - they open the gifts on Xmas eve.  A

It's finally getting icy here in Stockholm! I got pretty excited about this ice puddle and jumped around smashing it. I'm such a child.

Soooo I've actually automated this post, by the time it's live I'll be doing a very long journey home to my family.... Stockholm - Berlin - Abu Dhabi - Perth - Esperance. That's not a casual ride at all.... :(

You can understand why glancing over these images brings a tear to my eye right? How incredibly luck can one girl get?! And not only that - the looking at these image makes me feel so eternally grateful to have discovered my passion, photography. If it weren't for the fact I simply love to take pictures so damn much - I wouldn't be able to capture each of these moments.

These days it's so hard to live in the moment, when there's so many digital distractions... and me being someone who's made a career out of those distractions! Being present is often a struggle for me. A true social media junkie. It is a kind of peace though, to reflect and edit my images. To gave into them and recall the beauty of that moment, sometimes even more appreciated in the memory than perhaps while it's happening - guess that's a bit sad, but when you're working its harder to soak it all in.

Some of my favourite highlights over this past year?

Also pictured here.... Stockholm, Ibiza, Nice, Sydney, Broome! And I'll be bringing in the new year in Fiji! BONANZA!! #lucky #grateful x

It's Finally Here! The Fashion and Blog Photography Basics Course

So excited to be finally posting up the results of a labour of love - my Photography course!

I've been blogging for over 6 years now - and my blog has been the story of my journey as a self taught photographer, accumulating my knowledge from working as a fashion model and being a  passionate fan of Fashion Photography. Now I want to share my methods and what I've learnt during this time!

This is the first course to be released as part of my new endeavour, the Zanita Academy. What's unique about my course - it's conversational - and explains photography as I understand it. Learning to take a great picture means mastering a particular awareness and knowing what to look for. So many people ask me about my editing - but there's really nothing achieved in editing an average photographed. The real art begins while looking through the lens!

You can learn more about my online course by clicking through to this link - and as part of a Christmas Special, the first 200 buyer can receive 25% off using the code below.

CHRISTMAS2014

Take your pictures to the next level! And learn to see through your lens in a more considered way.

Well this isn't the most practical attire for freezing conditions but you can survive outside for about 15 minutes without getting too uncomfortable - the key is to move very quickly from door to cab to train or wherever! I'm constantly surprised by how little clothing some fashionista's get away with in Stockholm. I actually have an ugly jumbo black puffy coat I wear most days running to and from the office, because I can really get away with just a t-shirt and jeans and boots when wearing it. For anything else - layering is a must and cashmere is your best friend.  Very happy with my cute new bag - I love a cross body because you can still rave with both arms if totally necessary - this one is a early Christmas gift from Jimmy Choo, lucky me!!

I'm feeling a bit bummed I broke my posting schedule this past couple days - but jet lag has been  major bitch and I was out of mobile range for my Nan's 80th birthday - there can be no better excuse for failing on work than visiting family! I'm wildly excited about the launch of my Fashion and Blog Photography Course  which has been an amazing success and I'm really look forward to creating new instalments with my Zanita Academy. Right now I'm aiming to complete my editing course early February - followed by loads more!

My current location is Esperance - so blog posts following this point will be from a sunny and beachy locale. I hope you're all having the chance to spend some quality time with those you love! Please forgive me if my post count falls down a little, gotta make the most of seeing all my relatives, these times are few and far between.

Video: Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas from Me!

Hey Everyone - here's a short little video from me wishing you Seasons Greetings and all the rest, all the way from sunny Esperance.  Please excuse the windy audio, we had to film outside as there was a whole load of family members in the house. My mum has 10 siblings so Christmas is always some kind of eating bonanza... there's 55 of my relatives at lunch today, and that's not even all of them! Hope you enjoy this sneak peak into how I grew up. :)

I spent a pretty sizeable chunk of the past year in very cold places, meaning I'm now an owner of a sizeable collection of coats! Prior to scoring to means to travel like a maniac, I really only ever owned the one wool coat... ONE! And I'm actually wearing in the same coat in the final post, I've owned it for about 4-5 years.

Anyway, tis the time of year for reflection and also for time off! So another recap it is. Hope you've enjoyed for my year in layered attire and thanks so much again for sticking around all this time. X
